There is a hack in the wild that allows anyone make a cell "tower" and spam messages to anyone comming close.

They setup a 4g network that says sorry im not available try this 2g network. Your phone connects go 2g and because its insecure the phone and the tower make connection and the tower can start spamming.

You can turn of 2g on modern android systems.
I tried the iphone of my mom and the option wasnt tuere.

But you guys should be safe. No way a hacker uses an iphone. Just turn off 2g.

You can spoof SMS using this? I suppose this would work, but wouldn't a phone switch to any real 4G/5G tower before connecting to 2G? And Android 16 was the final nail in the coffin of 2G.

It are radio waves. If the signal is powerful enough and blocks out the rest. the point is the cell phone never reaches the legit tower.

Yea I'd be far more concerned of LE using IMSI catchers than some random person spamming me with texts.

I've seen LE in fake company vans in my city (paint companies and etc. Sometimes completely fictional companies). Pretty positive theyre running IMSI catchers.

If you're not using E2EE to communicate and you live in a police state (USA) you're fucking up. I dont care if you're talking about getting groceries. People need to start caring about privacy before it's too late, because in my opinion we're very close to it being too late. Soon they will force digital ID's on us and then every site will be forced to require you to sign up with it.

Within 10 years I'm calling it that this is at least attempted.
