Childhood friend hit by a car 16 years ago just passed away

One of my childhood friends was struck by a car (hit and run) roughly 16-17 years ago and lost most of his brain and skull and became a vegetable (unable to move, talk, or anything) and has been on life support ever since. His family refused to pull the plug on him because they said he'd squeeze their hands when talking to him still and believed he was still "there" and didn't want to just remove him from life support hoping he'd one day recover.

Unfortunately 2 days ago he passed away peacefully on his own due to some health complications. They had ensured that he always had some of the best and most advanced medical care and treatment giving him the best chance of recovery and survival.

He was a good kid I believe 15 or 16 when he was struck by the car. He was very athletic and played basketball and football for his school. He was with his siblings when the accident occurred so you can imagine the trauma they've had to also live with all these years.

His name was Mohammed and now he's finally at peace. Rest In Peace habibi 🙏🏾

Although it has been so many years since the accident I actually remember the day it happened and the shock and pain it caused to all his family and friends. Nobody thought he'd even live as long as he has but it was his time I guess.

Prayers for him and his family during this difficult time. Inshallah he will be granted the highest of paradise 🙏🏾.

Sorry to hear this my G..
RIP Mohammed....
I'm sorry your childhood friend has passed away. May he rest in peace. I've lost plenty of childhood friends over the years, so I understand in my own way what you're going through. If you ever need to talk, to vent, or just someone to listen, feel free to message me anytime.

Thank you I really appreciate that 🙏🏾 and man I don't even want to get started on how many close childhood friends of mine that passed away over theź years since graduating high school. At one point I think we buried like 6 of my close friends within 3 years and I think total of 12 over 6-7 years. Literally 12.... of my closest friends I grew up with and spent everyday with were dying left and right. We had a seriously bad drug overdose epidemic during those years and people were lacin drugs with all types of shit.

I believe his family was awarded a few million (I think $2-3 million dollars after taxes and such) and rather than spending it all on themselves they opted to move into a specialized home that was fitted for specifically for him since he was in the hospital 24/7 and they wanted to move him home so they could always be with him but couldn't in their current home. So once they had this new specialized home they moved home out the hospital and into their new home that also required like an entire ICU room built there and around the clock nurses caring for him. You can only imagine how much money it all costed especially for 16-17 years. They blew thru the money they were given pretty quick for all his expenses and then paid out of their pocket for the remaining years. They got him so much advanced care and treatments that at one point he would squeeze their hands when talking to him and the doctors said that it would never happen but it ended up happening. The love his family had for him was priceless.

Thank you all for the kind words, it's his family that really needs prayers and support but they all knew that day would come. He wasn't even supposed to live this long the doctors said it would be a miracle if he lived for 1-3 years let alone almost 17 years.

It's amazing how the love of his family gave him the best chances of survival possible for this many years. He's definitely in a better place now and no longer suffering. 🙏🏾

That’s truly touching. Sounds like he was surrounded by so much love and strength. Seventeen years is a real testament to that. May he rest peacefully.

I'm really sorry for your loss, this is very sad and heartbreaking. Wishing the best recovery for you and his family. Losing someone is priceless, no amount of money can recover this.
