So the US district judge has just lowered the fine on the infamous Israeli spyware company NSO group for the intrusion and surveillance on 1400 reported whatsapp users back in 2019

Quote:NSO has spent five years trying to claim that they are above the law. And engaged in all sorts of maneuvering. With this order, the music stopped,” John Scott-Railton, senior researcher at Citizen Lab, said at the time.

Nothing better to show these guys that they can't get away with letting this companies let governments spy on civilians then reduce the tiny fines they get for it.
And what about the customers ? The NSO group would not of been the controller behind the software that was spying on the whatsapp users merely the author of the software. 🕵️

Seeing as customers of the NSO group are 3 letter organizations it looks like this is a nice bit of political theater

This coincides lovely with the new IOS 26 update that makes it harder for researchers to detect if a IOS device has been infected with Pegasus spyware

Eh, what I wonder is how a US court has jurisdiction over an Israeli company that has no US operations.

Because they are the people doing it

So the US 3 letter organizations are using the NSO programs to spy on people

Whatsapp found out and sued the NSO group because they made the software

I assumed the NSO group had a conversation with the organization in question and said we aren't going to pay millions of dollars because you got caught using our software

The government drops the fine to probably half the amount they pay them for the software monthly
