How can I detect networks and security cameras?

Hi, I'm new to hacking, and I'm currently using a VMware virtual machine with Linux. But when I try to access networks to hack them, I can't see them, and the same goes for nmap. I want to know if I need any tools to detect these networks, and also, do I need to use a VPN or something similar to be secure while I'm here?
in order to hack network you need a usb wifi adaptor with packet injection and monitoring capability. One of the cheapest one is the Atheros-ar927 but it support only 2.4ghz. For a little more you have Realtek RTL8812AU and zSecurity RTL8812AU supporting 2.4 and 5Gghz. And if you want the best of the best, Check out for the Hak5 MK7AC. Or in other hands you can check for a rabberry pi zero, and use it to make your own wifi cracking device or just use it as wifi adaptor!! The integrated componant handle the packet injecting and monitoring too and you could make your own device. I hope it help you out

thanks for the information. I'm going to buy one, but can I do it in a virtual machine? If I buy one, do I just have to connect to the PC, open the virtual machine, and try to hack the Wi-Fi? I don't need to buy anything else, because if I have to buy something, I want to be sure it will work, meaning there won't be any problems with the virtual machine. And thanks for the information.

I don't think you can do anything without the basics

i use a VM on my pc to do some thigns like this and it work. make sure you add the network and the hardware you want to use like like the wifi and others, Also to crack wifi aand other you will need a usd wifi adaptor with packet injection and monitoring this is a fact! you could run attack and host a evil portal using 2 wifi adaptor but you wont be able to drive all kind of attack! It could be easer just making a usb bootable kali linux than run a vm

Well, ya' see, you turn on your WiFi, and ya look for the WiFi near you. 😛 But seriously unless you use pass through on your network adapter or use a bridged virtual network adapter, all you'll 'see' is the internal VMware network.

No, you need USB pass through, and 'hack the WiFi' is not simple.

The MK7AC is best for the WP, I suppose, but it's older and only supports WiFi 5.
No offense OP, but it sounds like you need to learn the basics of networking and how to configure VMware workstation VMs.

I would suggest going to any of those e-learning places (like Coursera or EdX)

If you want a more industry-friendly way to go through it (and have the cash), you can go through Cisco Academy and work towards a CNA certification. You can get a pretty decent job with a CNA, too.

And just a quick tip; Since you seem to be so new to VMware Workstation, I would suggest messing around with it before doing work with the VM in case you somehow break the VM and can't figure out how to fix it. Another option would be taking a snapshot before making changes, but that'll be something you'll need to study VMware Workstation on how to do that.
