I now feel like political polling is a scam.

As old as I am I cannot see how almost all political polling for the major election in the country I am in, and I think at least very often in the USA as well.... is always on a knife's edge, "Margin-of-error territory", "hung in the balance"? How can it always be on a knife's edge between two major parties or political blocs in various countries?

A knife's edge is to sell a lot of news, and for the press to make big dollars with the huge uncertainty etc..... It can't be otherwise. I just seems far too convenient that every fucking election is "on a knife's edge", "too close to call", "in a dead heat" and supposedly could go either way.

When I was young, I would have thought what I'm saying now to be a ridiculous conspiracy theory and I would firmly have believed that the press and polling companies wouldn't be so unethical as to make it all this big scam. I was brought up to respect the free press.....but it feels statistically very
improbable to me at this point, and it's pissing me off.

This thread is not to be political about certain parties in a way that ends up becoming a problem with people getting mad about different opinions. It's really just a question about how every major election in recent memory appears to be "on a knife's edge". 🙄😠🤮
The polls aren't all fair and square. Lobbying is a strong force that can change the winds.

Sometimes even when the difference is big. Marketing and propaganda ensures that "on a kinfe's edge" narrative is fed to masses so that they start to believe otherwise.
Having well-balanced opposing political parties is not a bad thing. Obviously, the races with clear outcomes aren't nearly as interesting or worth discussing in many cases.

But the polls and media keep saying all the major races are "too close to call" and all that garbage. I'm just not buying it any more. It has to be bullshit.

If it's too close to call then one benefit is viewers tuning in to see how it turns out as has been discussed already. You wouldn't flip back to the channel or website if it was a landslide since you already know. Another objective is that if they make it seem close then those that haven't voted will be more likely to do so since they are led to believe every vote makes a difference. 90% of news outlets are complete garbage in my opinion and haven't had any credibility for a very long time. The news is always skewed towards one agenda or another. There is never just straight facts. Even Wikipedia a very known information hub has been taken over and twisted to help agendas recently. Why make information left/right you may ask? Because the AI models pull a ton of information from Wikipedia and kids trust AI answers as well as some adults. Even many AI models are trustworthy at this point. It's the age of botting online accounts to spread misinformation and corporations/governments pay news outlets to tell the version of things they like.

Well that's exactly what I meant. It's all bullshit now because of that.
