HF veterans, what did you actually get out of being here?

I'm getting closer to 18 years of age, been getting more serious about cybersecurity lately (OSINT, writing my own anticheat for a Roblox game I run). Trying to figure out if HF is worth investing real time in long term or if it's mostly noise at this point.
For people who've been around a while, did being active here actually open doors for you? Network, skills, opportunities, jobs? Or is it more of a hangout than anything career relevant? Looking for an honest read from people further along than me.
This Is a really interesting thread can't wait to hear some of the replies, for me It opened a few doors but being too young I never fully followed through on any of these plans. Mostly now I'm just a hobbyist who enjoys writing and teaching others what I can.

Have made a few friends on the site along the way also, worth sticking around In multiple degrees for me.

Glad to see you again. The friendship angle is interesting, are most of those people still active on the forum?
Yes, you should invest all your time into HF no cap.

Look, it is a total toss up. I have seen guys on here pull in serious money, like high five or even six figure stacks, and go on to launch actual companies that started as simple forum projects. But then? I have also watched people get banned, doxed, or literally end up in a prison cell because they just did not know when to quit. It really goes either way and that is mostly down to your own head and the choices you make when nobody is looking. I can say for sure that HF is a one of a kind format for meeting people who are actually on your level. You can ask about some obscure technical rabbit hole or some specific anticheat logic that 99 percent of people would never understand and find a few experts who are legit masters of the craft.

The thing is that the community and the friendships you build are what really make or break the experience. If you are just here to lurk or stay in your own little bubble the noise will eventually just drive you crazy. It is the groups and the private chats and the actual bonds you forge that make the site feel like something more than just a dusty board. Those connections are what turn a casual hangout into a real launchpad for your future. Without a solid crew or a sense of brotherhood to back you up the platform just becomes another place to waste your potential. It is the humans behind the avatars that actually change the game for you.

It is a gamble. Always has been. But if you find your tribe and keep your nose clean there is no better place to accelerate your learning. Just stay sharp and remember that your reputation is the only thing that actually sticks.
MAKE REP GREAT AGAIN 2027
For me I met a few good friends I still talk to on the daily. I think the biggest thing though was just learning random things and shooting the breeze with people, or the marketplace. Bought a lot of things over the years
