Internet feels different now

Might sound weird but internet doesn’t feel the same anymore.

Everything feels more controlled, more ads, less real interaction.

Anyone else feel this shift?
Absolutely. Feels so controlled and depressing/gloomy now lol.

I agree it feels different. Now we have to crawl through AI slop and ads to find anything useful.

Not to mention how the fundamental Internet FREEDOM is gone to great degree, replaced with KYC and regulations.

Yeah exactly what I was trying to say, just feels different overall now compared to before.

Fr lol, it’s like everything got more polished but less real at the same time 😅
Censorship as a concept has been increasing for years and I believe that it's at an all time high. As far as ads go, you could at least implement an adblocker if you don't already run one. They aren't the end all solution by any means but it helps.

To your point, it does feel vastly different anymore. The internet used to feel so much more wild and more "free". The world is now full of sensitive people and others who can't handle people feeling differently about anything. Those mindsets have absolutely bled into the internet and negatively impacted the atmosphere of pretty much everything.
This signature is for sale.
Major social media platforms exposing APIs for automated use, without regard for how bots interact with humans will do that. 15 years ago the internet was still a living thing. Now, it is a carefully constructed space that collects, siphons, and controls what is said and done. In 2009 you could learn about hacking from this site, mess with your friends and live to tell the tale. Now? Ha. :D
Soon we will be in the terminator movies for real.
It’s definitely different from the early 2000’s. YouTube before google bought them was awesome. Having to upload files to geocities was a thing, forums were everywhere, and people were much less narcissistic on social media sites like MySpace. There was little to no censorship really. Things change though, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the worse. The only constant is cat memes. Thank gosh for cat memes…
Yeah, it was less controlled but that was to get people hooked on it. Like cigarettes were given away for free in the beginning to hook new smokers.
I agree , everything is montized and even ads are super targetted

Yeah I get what you mean, it definitely feels more restricted compared to before. Everything seems more moderated now and less “free” than it used to be.

Adblock helps a bit with the ads but it’s still kinda everywhere. Overall vibe of the internet just feels different now, not as raw as it used to be.

True lol, internet back then felt way more alive. Now everything feels kinda controlled and filtered.

That’s actually a good comparison lol, feels like it slowly shifted over time without people noticing.
