LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY (2026) | Lee Cronin |
The title is “The Mummy,” but the film is closer in style to THE EXORCIST, SINISTER, or the films of Sam Raimi than to THE MUMMY. They even play with it on the poster with the joke “Brendan Fraser is not in…”
The overall aesthetics, the cinematography (lighting, especially the use of darkness and shadows), and the music clearly create a full horror movie atmosphere. There is no doubt about that.
At first, I didn’t really understand where the film was going, especially when it jumped to the “8 years later” ellipse. I was a bit lost. But in the end, I understood that the movie was heavily focused on building up tension. Even though there are horror elements throughout the film, you only really get what you’re looking for at the end.
Since it is a horror film, I’ll say this: if you are sensitive or can’t handle very graphic content (like THE UGLY STEPSISTER), then this film is not for you. There is nothing subtle here; everything is over the top, including all the scenes, and even just mentioning the ceremony and the “transferring substance from one container to another” part is already disturbing.
In short, worth watching even though I was tired while watching it.
