I recently sent a video to a buddy of a game coming out (Rules of Engagement: The Grey State), his only response was (Tencent). I had no idea what he was talking about so i did some looking around and the studio "grey state studio" is a subsidiary of Tencent games. Apparently they (Tencent) have taken alot of heat for alleged "spying" through the use of aggressive Kernel Level Anti-Cheats and monitoring chats, etc. Some say all of this data is sent to the CCP to either sell or "use against you" in some sort of way. Why would a Chinese gaming company give a fuck about blackmailing a gamer playing in his moms basement in USA or wherever...idk. But don't ALL games nowadays collect data in some way shape or form?...i mean come on they literally say it in the End User License Agreement which nobody reads lol. They just claim its for "improving the game".
I don't play any of the games Tencent produces or have stakes in as far as i can see, which is likely why i had no idea what he was talking about. But i do really want to play ROETGS. Apparently they are going to be using the Kernel Level Anti-Cheat with it. I mean i already have a couple games that use KLAC like battlefield 6 so whatever i guess, i don't do anything important or save important stuff on my gaming rig anyways.
Now for the hypocrisy part...this guy literally has a Chinese wife that has her family send them stuff from China directly to his house, and on top of it all he registers his steam account in China because "its cheaper". I know for a fact he has games that Tencent has stakes in (after researching now). I dont think he has any that are directly owned or produced by them though. But how is that not being a hypocrite?, i mean having the wife is fine i have no prob with that part, but then saying "im not going to play this game because its from china" while having a steam account and having items sent to you from China seems to me like being blatantly hypocritical.
Iv never jumped on the bandwagon of "im not playing that because of my political stance" or "im not buying that because that company supports LGBTQ or this or that". I just like a quality product for my money, i could care less about your companies politics, just make a good game and ill play it and consider buying the next one.
Anyways, i would like to know what people think about Tencent and Kernel Level Anti-Cheats.
