MyBB 1.8.4 was released nearly 2 weeks ago. I only noticed late last week.

Because HF is not branch I have to manually go through each file that's edited and make the alterations necessary for security updates. Some of them I don't even have to apply because they don't effect HF. Example would be Calendar Feature which is disabled on HF entirely.
Took me a few hours but it's all done, we're patched up and ready to go.
btw, weird thing is for a couple months the MyBB forum and Extend (plugins/themes) sections were disabled and redirected you to the home page. Unsure if they were upgrading or doing an AI Audit. I thought maybe they were finally calling it quits. Strange that I don't see any threads about it in the MyBB forums. Their project is really dead.
If the project is nearly dead do you think they'll soon stop supporting it? If that happens what happens to HF?
Interesting that the project is nearly dead, or though I guess new forums aren't as popular as they once were, definitely my favorite forum engine.

It doesn't matter to HF. I'm not branch anymore.
I think they'll just continue plodding along saying the projects working on whatever is next but doing actually very little.
They said MyBB 2.0 was coming out since 2011. In 2015 they started development of 2.0. By 2018 they ditched the idea and went with 1.9x. Which still isn't released 8 years later. It's a little sad. I tried multiple times to buy the project from Chris or at least take over management. Never got a response. Maybe it's for the best. Forums are not popular anymore.
Do you think we could branch a mybb of our own im talking to Riggs and Omniscient mostly.
I mean it's worth brainstorming maybe.

Ten years ago maybe when I could have monetized that type of project but today it's not worth doing.
I think most people today who might have created a personal or even business forum 10-15 years ago instead opt to create Discord or Telegram channels. Basically, it's centralizing the internet and I loathe it but that's where the market is right now.

TikTok
Facebook
Discord
Telegram
Instagram
That's where all the socializing is mostly done. Through 3rd party services where a violation of ToS/AuP gets you closed.

I understand you like your independence, but have you ever thought about expanding to Telegram? E.g. If you moved the previously somewhat-active public convo chat to Telegram, with a bot that notifies people of new threads and such, people would no doubt use it if it linked to the forum. Out of all these services you mentioned, I would justify Telegram is the standalone app where you could justify most of it's English speaking users could greatly benefit, and have a justified use case for signing up to HF (knowledge regarding AI, online monetizing, crypto, news etc.). Very relevant topics could definitely become active.. perhaps being an echo chamber isn't the best meta to grow.
Telegram public HF group chat with a bot that links to user's HF profile and gives a name tag. Telegram would be far easier than Discord to moderate, especially with AI bots. Telegram would also be a lot less censored in general. I just think the forum is missing out by not being more officially involved on at least one of these platforms.

Excellent step in the right direction. Thanks for the link.
Last time I had anything to do with forums there was a debate between MyBB and Xenforo, i think there’s a clear winner there.
That sounds tedious. I also noticed the 1.8.4 update for my personal installations.

Unfortunately it does seem like MyBB is at it's end of life, the development team refuses to keep everyone up to date, it seems like progress is at a snail pace.
People looking at launching forums in the future should look into phpBB as it still has an active development team and some basic modern features that even MyBB 1.9 will not come with such as alerts or go for xenForo.

I'd pass on phpBB. XF maybe.
I think it makes more sense to use NodeBB (NodeJS).

What will happen to HF if MyBB dies? Are there any plans?
