Millions Know Their Names. They Don't Know Ours.

Millions Know Their Names. They Don't Know Ours.

With the World Cup, football season, and social media constantly pushing athletes and celebrities into our feeds, I've noticed something that feels strange.

Millions of people know everything about certain football players.

Their names.
Their goals.
Their salaries.
Their girlfriends.
Their cars.
Their injuries.

Yet those same players don't know a single one of those millions of fans.

Some footballers earn more in a week than many families will earn in their entire lives.

Some sign contracts worth tens or hundreds of millions.

Meanwhile, there are people working 40+ hours a week who still struggle to pay rent, buy groceries, or survive the summer heat without worrying about electricity bills.

Don't get me wrong.

I'm not saying athletes don't work hard.

Most elite athletes dedicate their entire lives to their craft.

But it makes me wonder:

Why are we so fascinated by people we'll never meet?

Why do millions celebrate a goal more passionately than their own achievements?

Why do some people know every statistic about a football player but barely know their neighbors?

Sometimes I think modern society has created a strange relationship with fame.

A football player can walk into a stadium and have 80,000 people chanting his name.

A teacher might positively impact thousands of lives and never receive that level of recognition.

A nurse can save lives.

A firefighter can risk theirs.

A parent can sacrifice everything for their children.

Yet society often places the spotlight elsewhere.

Another thing I find interesting:

The average fan often spends years watching football.

The football player spends zero seconds thinking about that individual fan.

Yet many people emotionally invest themselves into victories and losses that don't actually change their own lives.

So here's my question:

Do you think modern society places too much value on celebrities, athletes, and influencers?

Or do you think they deserve every dollar and every bit of attention because they entertain billions of people?

And if you could choose one person to earn millions:

A football player,
A teacher,
A doctor,
A scientist,
Or someone else entirely...

Who would you choose and why?
These celebrities and athletes get payed a lot of money because they're selling the bread and circuses act to the masses. They're also a major conduit for social engineering.

Thanks for your perspective. The "bread and circuses" concept is actually a fascinating historical parallel. Throughout history, rulers have recognized that entertainment can shape public attention. It's definitely an interesting lens to look through. Appreciate you bringing it up.
I don’t focus on celebrity status nor do I envy them for having it.

You’re giving up your whole life in exchange for money, and if you make any mistake your life is over in ways that are unachievable for normal people like myself and yourself.

I might not make 10000s of dollars when I put a pen to paper, but boy am I happy in life!
Modern society definitely puts too much value on them. However I do completely understand being a fan and enjoying the entertainment they bring.

For example I have been a huge Tom Brady fan my whole life because I’m a fan of the New England Patriots. But I’m not gonna obsess over every little thing he does in his life like one of those annoying swifties do for Taylor Swift.

I do think it’s sad we put more attention into these kinds of people than Doctors or other people that are more important to our society.

But the cold hard reality is doctors and others aren’t on TV publicly entertaining me. They are working behind the scenes doing the very important things we all need. Which I will always be thankful for, more so than these famous people. But with the publicity these famous people have it’s impossible to not be more aware of them.

Celebrities/famous people definitely deserve the money they make. They make the people they work for BUTTLOADS of money which is what they are paid to do.

Although doctors are definitely more important, they don’t make money for others like for example athletes do. Doctors are definitely more important, but again that’s the reality of the world.
That's perfectly normal.

It happens to anyone who's well-known. Hell, even your doctor might not remember your name the next time you see them.

I personally focus on or at least analysis whatever is in front of my eyes and ask myself several questions like how? why? where? what? I personally do not like them nor hate them. Everyone does his things for a reason.

The goal should be always and everyday bigger than the money. And obviously just like we have friends and people who are gonna like us, we are gonna have enemies and people who gonna hate us. If I lose a conflict and die, I hope someone else take my sword and win the war, that's it.
I can’t say I know a single pro soccer player’s name, and honestly don’t care to.
