I've struggled with depression. I even have a semicolon (;) tattoo on my neck because it means my story isn't over.
My depression may seem childish to some because it was about a girl I worked with. She knew I got jealous easily, and she used that against me. People would come up to me saying she called me "daddy" and things like that. Even though she was 34 years old, I was only 18 at the time. She had also lied about her age, telling me she was 27.
When I found out the truth, I told her I wanted to end my life. Her response was that I needed to "be a man." Real friends don't judge you; they try to help you. That's what real friends do. After that, I became deeply depressed.
So I decided to follow part of her advice and improve myself. I spent my last $20 on a gym membership and even overdrafted my bank account, but I didn't care. I wanted to become a better person. I worked out at a 24/7 gym and probably spent half the night there. Eventually, the gym owner noticed and asked me what was wrong. I told him I wanted to improve myself, and he started giving me daily workout advice.
Over time, I started making good money. I built a car wash business, and it's been successful. I've ignored her for over a year, and now she's upset because she doesn't understand why. If you read the beginning of my story, there are plenty of reasons why I choose not to talk to her anymore. Depression is not a joke.
Now I focus on myself. I find it very difficult to trust women after what happened, and I put my trust in God.
If you're struggling with depression too, my advice is to keep fighting. Don't give up. Keep fighting until you find happiness, and don't be afraid to reach out to people who genuinely care about you.
I'm also thinking about joining the U.S. Army.
