Kouji Yada Passes Away

Today we start off AA Weekly with some sad news, unfortunately, the voice actor Kouji Yada has passed away at age 81 due to chronic kidney failure. The voice actor passed away on Thursday 1st May at 2:19PM and will be sorely missed.

Kouji is most famlusly known for his roles as Doctor Gero in the Dragon Ball Z series and as Talan in Star Blazers. Fellow voice actor at Aoni Production Tesu Inada wrote on Twitter: ""It wasn't my line, but, 'I've been in your care so damn much! I will never forget everything you've done for me!'". So R.I.P to a legend who will be sorely missed.

Football Players Recreate Scenes of Captain Tsubasa Manga's 'Dream Shoots'

In some more light-heartened news, Football players (or Soccer players to you weirdo Americans) have recreated scenes in Captain Tsubasa Manga: 'Dream Shoots'. The official website for Youichi Takahashi's Captain Tsubasa manga have updated the site with the second series of "Dream Shoot", where professional Football players recreate iconic scenes from the series.

The video this time features Kawasaki Frontale midfielder Kengo Nakamura and striker Yoshito Ōkubo team up to attempt a "Handou Shu Soku Jin Hou" (roughly "Rebound speed kick cannon shot"). Watch the video here. (I fully recommend watching it!)

Voice Actress Yū Serizawa Apologizes for Wearing Ring

Yū Serizawa who is a voice actress for the anime Dog & Scissors posted a picture on Twitter of her holding a microphone in a Karaoke booth, fairly innocent. Unfortunately she was also wearing a ring on her left ring finger, commonly the finger in which a ring means marriage or engagement. Many of her followers questioned her about the ring but for most part were supportive and congratulated her - strangely the voice actress then took to Twitter to apologize for "betraying" her fans.

"Everyone. This is Serizawa. In my earlier Twitter post there is a photograph of me with a ring on my left ring finger. I'm very sorry for the grief I have caused by misleading you with this. I'm sorry. There is no deep meaning behind this ring. This is the truth. There was a similar post on my blog..."

"This is the second time I have betrayed you due to my hasty actions. I won't allow this to continue as I carry on with work. There is nothing for you guys to grieve about!! Please believe me. I will continue my efforts to work seriously in the future, be more aware, and to once again work hard to regain your trust."

"Thank you all for supporting me and thank you in advance. Thank you for reading until the end."

Although this seems strangely excessive; remember that unapproved relationships are extremely frowned upon by management agencies. KAT-TUN singer Jin Akanishi was forced by his agency to leave the GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka the live action series and even had to cancel his tour after he was secretly married. The same occurred to Aya Hirano who fell out with her agency and fans after being "too open" with her sexual relationships. The most famous of these though was when AKB48 idol Minami Minegishi shaved her head as an apology for dating.

Yū Serizawa is a singer and voice actress, as well as a member of the Pretty Rhythm-related idol group, i☆Ris.

MANGA HIGHLIGHT

Title - Yotsubato! ( よつばと!)
Genre(s) - Comedy, Slice of Life
Demographic - Seinen
Author(s) - Azuma Kiyohiko (Story & Art)
Serialization - Dengeki Daioh
Published - Mar 21, 2003 to Still Running
Status - Publishing
Chapters Scanlated - 85 (As of 05.05.14)

Synopsis

Yotsuba's daily life is full of adventure. She is energetic, curious, and a bit odd—odd enough to be called strange by her father as well as ignorant of many things that even a five-year-old should know. Because of this, the most ordinary experience can become an adventure for her. As the days progress, she makes new friends and shows those around her that every day can be enjoyable.

My Opinion

Through much self-debate, I decided to start off the manga highlights with a very solid pick.

As with most manga centered on pure slice of life comedy, Yotsuba would hardly warrant an actual full-length review due to the simplistic nature of it. To quickly sum up my experience with Yotsuba, it's fun. That's pretty much all it is; it's fun. It sets out to be a lighthearted little piece of entertainment, and that's just what it is. Whether you're a hardcore slice of life fan, want something entertaining and easy to read or are just in a sore mood, Yotsuba is bound to charm you in one way or another. Though, if you're out for some awesome battles and powerups, deep and intricate plot structure or heavy drama, you will needless to say not find anything of the kind here. Yotsuba is highly acclaimed as the prime example of the slice of life genre and as such it very much deserves it's praise. The characters are all unique and interesting despite the manga mainly centering around a titular character, and the art is clean and simple, highly reminiscent of the author's previous work with Azumanga Daioh. There's not much to complain about when it comes to Yotsuba, keeping in mind it's trademark genre. Even if you're not a big fan of slice of life I urge you to at least give it a few chapters. Who knows, it might just pull you in.

My Rating 8/10

Synopsis

Shio Ogura is a Japanese high school student, who is visiting Taiwan on a school trip when she is suddenly attacked by monsters. Agents known as "E-Gene Holders" from the government agency DOGOO also arrive, who wield weapons infused with the spirits of historical figures. Shio is revealed to also be an E-Gene Holder when the soul of Oda Nobunaga awakens after she tries to rescue a friend.

Characters
[Image: 234137.jpg]
Shio "Nobunagun" Ogura
She is a high-schooler who is considered as an outsider by most of her classmates except for Karou due to her clumsiness. She has a fascination with military equipment and weaponry. She has no idea that she is an "E-Gene" holder and a descendant of Oda Nobunaga until strange creatures called "Evolutionary Invasion Objects" appeared during her school's field trip to Kaohsiung Taiwan. She unintentionally touches Jack's spear during the chaos which activated her "E-Gene" and finds herself welding a huge gun in her right arm and possessing the same courage and aggressiveness of her great ancestor.

Adam "Jack the Ripper" Muirhead
One of the first DOGOO members that Shio encounters, Adam is the E-Gene Holder of Jack the Ripper, and his AU weapon is a large hunting knife. Though he and Shio team up in various missions, they still get irritated with each other at times.

My Opinion

I really liked this show. Im not usually a big fan of shounen but I liked that there wasn't a lot of fan service. Of course there is some but not an overload that turned me off the show. And I don't think there was enough for anyone to not watch. Probably the biggest thing I liked about this show was that the idea was pretty unique. Im not gonna give details because I don't want to risk spoiling but its not like any show Ive really ever seen. I also kinda liked the character progression. It was the most in depth or greatest progression Ive ever seen but its there and I thought it was pretty good. The only gripe I have is that while it is primarily action they try to fit in a little romance. That wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't feel so tedious. It wasn't entirely bad romance but I felt it was unnecessary.

My Rating 8/10

Interview with +Oblivious

Unknown:
Hi +Oblivious, how are you today?

+Oblivious:
I'm fine, thanks for asking. How are you this fine evening? (It's the evening at my place)

Unknown:
It's currently 8PM here. I'm doing fine. First question: Who is your favorite Vocaloid, and what is your favorite song by her/him?

+Oblivious:
Oh, really? It's 9PM at my place.
My favorite vocaloid? Gee, that's a tough one, but if you know me well you'll know what my answer would be: Gumi. Gumi was, is and will always be my favorite Vocaloid, and for a very simple reason: Her voice feels more alive. No offense to Miku fans, or to Rin fans, but I really like Gumi's voice more, although I wish that the community would produce better songs, like Last Note does. In my second place comes IA who has a really nice voice too. My favorite song of Gumi must be Coward Montblanc. If I had to choose a male Vocaloid.... Definitely Kaito.

Unknown:
I know you love Gumi :P. My personal favorite swaps a lot between IA and Gumi. I really like "Revenge Syndrome and I'm sorry for liking you!" from IA. But "Eye Examination and Eat Me" from Gumi are awesome too. I agree on Kaito, I'm not really a Len fan aside from "Sacred Spear Explosion Boy" which is a sequel to "Spinal Fluid Explosion Girl" from Miku & Gumi. Next question: What did you think of the previous AA Weekly articles?

+Oblivious:
Ah, yes, Eye Examination comes in my top 5 of Gumi songs. But I also really like IA's version. I have never really liked Len either way, I never understood why people liked him.
As for the previous issue of the AA Weekly, I really enjoyed reading it, but my favorite part was the Loli of the week... Kobato. Good going there, Happeh! More seriously though, I also enjoyed the interview with Oliver, great job right there.

Unknown:
Do you have anything you wish to see in upcoming AA weekly editions?

+Oblivious:
As for the upcoming AA weekly editions, I'm not as experienced as you guys. So far, you have made a lot of progress, and I loved each issue of the AA weekly. Keep up the nice work!

Unknown:
Thanks for the compliment. About the AA section, there are a lot of "Recommend me an anime" threads. The users posting these are seemingly ignoring Black Hole's sticky in our section. What do you think of this and what would you suggest we do about it?

+Oblivious:
Ah, yes, I have seen quite a few threads like these recently (don't we all?), and I believe that even though there is a sticky, people will always want a one-to-one recommendation, god knows why. Maybe because they think that the sticky is outdated? I don't really know. The sticky doesn't really tell you what anime you should watch if you watched this or that anime, that's another reason. I don't think that we can do much, as there are tons of anime and we couldn't possibly make a sticky for ALL of them, even though the current sticky is pretty well organized.

Unknown:
True, true. If you could bring one anime character to the real world, who would you bring to this world?

+Oblivious:
Hmmm... That's really a tough one. I've watched a few anime, and so far I liked every character in them. I wouldn't want to put any character over any other. But it really depends on the circumstances and on my situation. If the world is at full war? Lelouch Vi Britannia. If I needed someone to protect me? Hei, Darker Than Black. If I wanted someone to create a virtual reality MMO? Kayaba Akihiko (SAO, don't kill me). But all in all, I think that I'd choose one anime character if I had no other choice: Kyon, the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. What, did you expect me to choose a potential waifu? (I never had a waifu either way). Kyon is really chill, and I think that I'd really enjoy my time with him. (No homo, though.)

Unknown:
I thought the grass at Ashford Academy was your waifu :P. Which season of Code Geass did you like more, R1 or R2?

+Oblivious:
Haha, that's a joke between me and my brother. He always thought that I had this or that anime character as a waifu, but I always came up with "The grass at Ashford Academy is mai waifu" :P
I've got to say that I liked R1 more than R2, I don't really know why. R1 just gave me a better experience, getting to know all of the characters and such. R2 was also really good, but I disliked the presence of Rolo, mainly what made it less good than R1.

Unknown:
I have the same thoughts regarding that. If Rollo wasn't present in R2, then I would've chosen R2 as the better of the two. What is your favorite genre of anime, and why?

+Oblivious:
Well, I'm a bit confused right now. At first, psychological was my favorite genre, and then supernatural was my favorite. Now it's hanging between psychological and comedy mainly. Mainly the three different anime which pushed me to take that decision were: Code Geass, Darker Than Black and The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is a great anime too.

Unknown:
Hmm.. I'm not a fan of comedy, but I promised Happeh to watch Nichijou. My personal favorite is romance. It feels like you're in love whenever you watch romance. Beautiful ;(. We've had a good conversation, is there anything you want to say to our readers?

+Oblivious:
Well, it has been a good conversation indeed. I'd like to thank the readers for reading this far, I'm sure that it took them a lot of effort (sarcasm)... Oh, and long live the emperor!

Unknown:
Long Live Tibit, indeed.

VISUAL NOVEL OF THE WEEK
*Graphics Pending*

Shinigami no Kiss wa Wakare no Aji

Synopsis:

Shinigami no Kiss wa Wakare no Aji is a Visual Novel that was produced in 2009, it was the only game that was able to be released before the company closed.
The story revolves around a male protagonist whose close friend died to try and save him. Now the main character believes has nothing left to live for.

Basically you have two heroine choices, the loli: Kohaku, or the sweet friend: Honoka. It's a simple choice as it has only a few choices through the course of the story.

Story Review:

I thought it was basically like every other "sad" visual novel that tries to make the reader feel for the characters. Essentially it's protagonist looses someone dear, several girls come to the aid in cute and funny acts and end up banging him.

The endings, both of them, seem to be missing some vital points, it may have just been me finishing it in one night but I had to go through and reread some of it to truly understand the story.

Art:

To be honest the first thing that pulled me in was the art. It has everything I wanted art-wise: cute girls.

There is one thing about the art did to annoy me a fair bit, mainly in the hentai scenes. I noticed quite a few differences in the character design like hair changing styles. For example: At one point the girl's goes from having her hair down, to twintails, and back to the previous style again. Kohanku changes quite drastically in between some scenes, I would have absolutely no trouble in believing that she was drawn by four different designers, each with their own vision for her.

Programming:

I only ran into sounds problems, it really didn't have much sound to it apart from the atmosphere setting music and the opening intro but I repeatedly heard a crackling issue.

Overall Satisfaction:

Now that you've made it all the way through my first and probably not so great review let's finish up with the ratings!

Story: 7/10
Art: 8/10
Programming: 5/10

Note: This week's loli of the week contains spoilers from the Monogatari series.

This weeks loli of the week is given to everybody's favourite: Shinobu-chan! It seems like you guys have a thing for chibi, loli vampires, right? Shinobu is one of the cutest, most energetic lolis we will ever see. Her adorable laugh is something you'd die to hear as well as her cute little one piece. To top it all off, she wears a helmet with goggles to boot. Shinobu, unlike your average loli, is the best of both worlds when it comes to characteristics. While she has her cute, petite loli body, her original full powered body is busty as well as womanly. Most of us here prefer the loli Shinobu, so let's keep that talk out of here shall we? If you're a fan of both oppai and the holy DFC (delicously flat chest), then Shinobu is definitely your best girl...as well as ours. Further down the series, you will find out her cuteness knows no limits when she is fascinated by seeing the different colors and shapes that donuts have to offer. Her excitement.. is our excitement. To top it all off, she possess an awesome sword, can kick ass and is one of the most deadliest predators alive.

Series: Bakemonogatari, Monogatari Series.
MAL: http://myanimelist.net/anime/5081/Bakemonogatari

The loli of the week, starting this week, will be decided by you guys! Every week, you can vote on a poll for your next loli of the week. This way we can vote and admire them together as well as seeing who the most popular is between the AA! For next week, you can vote for either:

Index, from Toaru Majutsu no Index
Yaya, from Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai
Victorique, from Gosick
Athena, from Campione!: Matsurowanu Kamigami to Kamigoroshi no Maou
