Genetic Surgery Performed on Embryo to Remove Life Threatening Disease
Researchers at the Sun Yat-sen University in China have successfully performed DNA editing surgery on an embryo. They were able to alter a single "letter" out of millions contained within the genetic code to remove the genetic disease beta-thalassemia. Base editing of DNA changes one of the four building blocks: adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine which are commonly represented as their first letters. According to the team "We are the first to demonstrate the feasibility of curing genetic disease in human embryos by base editor system." They are hoping this procedure will bring treatment to many terrible genetic diseases. >>Source

Life-Preserving Color-Changing Tattoos may Soon be a Reality
This one goes out to the ink heads out there, your art can now serve a possibly life saving function. Two postdoctoral fellows, led by Katia Vega, were looking to create the next generation of wearable technology. They were looking for a way to usher in a new generation of wearable technology, with the current generation being unable to integrate with the body and relatively short battery life seamlessly.. They were all surprised where their research took them. Their dermal abyss tattoo ink changes color based on the composition of certain fluids within the body. Most notably they can be used to measure glucose levels, greatly helping those living with diabetes. They also have temporary and permanent versions of the tattoos for those of you afraid of commitment. Lastly, the team is now working on completing work on an app to interpret the coloring of the ink more accurately. >>Source

Gamers may Have a leg up in the Classroom
At the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, neuropsychologists set gamers and non-gamers against each other in a little learning competition. Those participating in the study were shown a random combination of cue cards with symbols on them. Subjects were then asked to predict if it is going to rain or be sunny out depending on the cards. Immediately after answering, they were told if their predictions were or weren't correct and given feedback. Sooner or later they all began learning how to correctly predict the weather based on the symbols. However, the gamers were able to grasp the concept faster in almost all cases, leading the team to their conclusion. I'm not sure how much faith I put in something like this myself, but it is still an interesting read nonetheless. >>Source

Catalonia Wins Blood-Soaked Right to Statehood
It has been a long time to come, but Catalonia has finally successfully voted and decided on independence. This road to freedom has been anything but trivial for Catalonia; it was instead paved with the blood of innocents. According to the Catalan government, over 800 people were injured during the voting. Local law enforcement was raiding all polling stations, in an effort to prevent this historic vote. There is an even chilling video of riot police ripping a woman out of a station embedded in the source article, her blood littering the white tile. In the end, however, it was all for naught. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Gets Its Own Company
Bluehole has created a subsidiary that will focus primarily on the game of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The company is named PUBG Corp, and the CEO of the company is the lead developer of the game, Chang Han Kim as well as Woonghee Cho. With that being said, this allows the benefit of a group of people hired to focus on the game itself, rather than working on other projects that may interfere with the process of dishing new things out for PUBG. To make it official, the company already has a headquarters office in the United States. In the future, PUBG Corp plans on also making offices in Japan and even the Europe. >>Source

New Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Released
A video was released by Rockstar for the upcoming wild west open-world sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2. Showcasing beautiful graphics, the teaser video starts off high in the mountains with cloudy, but beautiful skies. Showcasing different characters, weapons and sceneries, you get a glimpse of what the game has to offer. At the end of the teaser, you are welcomed with "Spring 2018. Cuphead: Creating a Game That Looks Like a 1930s Cartoon
This popular new game is currently popular on the Twitch streaming app. What game is it exactly? Cuphead. In this game, you get to play as a character that looks like he is from a 1930s cartoon. What is even more amazing is that all the art you see in the game is hand drawn. This was to speed up the process of getting the game out faster. It has an American art style to it, and the game is going for $20. It has a sidescroller arcade style feel to it. Your character has a finger gun that you use to blast off and kill enemies. You run from side to side which is where the sidescroller arcade style comes in and you basically just run and gun. Originally the game started its development in 2010. In 2014, it announced its arrival of coming soon. The game is released on PC and Xbox. >>Source
