I would have a feeling that the "community" categorizes them. You aren't the only one who watches "girl" animes. Hell, I was surprised when I found out Strike Witch's demographic was female; and I really couldn't give a damn :D
Good anime belong to alot of demographics. Female demographics are slightly undiscovered in my opinion.
Also: You'll be loved for liking Shakugan no Shana. Especially by a certain person who shall remain unnamed.

I love you for liking Shakugan no Shana. <3
It doesn't really matter what the demographic is to be honest. Many guys watch girl(or shoujo) anime because it's cute. It's all fine, the categories don't matter. All that does matter is if the anime is good and if it suits your tastes. :3
EDIT: Also, Shana is targeted at a male audience because, like I stated above, there is too much cute.
I watch girl animes I guess then. What's wrong with them? Do they have to have people getting blown up to be a guy anime?
Lol dude there's nothing wrong with watching girl animes. I myself watch plenty of romances and I love it :3
Watching Hanasaku iroha atm which features the main characters girls but i still feel its fine for males to watch. I dont give a fuck what other think ^^
I don't label them, but I honestly dislike those animes where girls are all mean when they like boys.
I think it's really retarded.

There are many "girl" anime that has me crying like a girl so ill never judge. ^^ This is exactly what I was going to post! Haha! Do not worry about what genre an anime is considered to be in, its just a way to generalize and label things. So do not worry about it one bit!
That's bullshit. It might be true that more girls than guys prefer romantic anime's but it doesn't mean that it's a girly anime. If you like it, then you like it. There's no problem with that, nor should you worry about it. You could categorize yuri or yaoi, but even then it wouldn't be correct as there are girls who watch yuri even though they're not lesbians or bisexuals.
Few years ago I liked ecchi and etc but now I don't like it, it's boring for me. I could still watch a romance anime like clannad, true tears and etc, where the plot is serious, there's drama and etc but not only drawn boobies with retarded plot, with no proper ending, like most ecchi's.
p.s. atm I am watching Hajime no Ippo, it's gonna be my 10th time in 3-4 years. lol xD Epic anime.
I think you're awesome for watching anime aimed at girls. It's not exactly rare when I find a guy who does, but it's cool.

Damn, and I was this close to deceiving people of my weight.
ehh... I wouldn't call them girl anime, because.. I honestly think those are more aimed towards guys, but overall can be watched by anyone. anime aimed at girls are shoujo, like Vampire Knight.. ugh...
Is kanon classified as a girl anime? I loved that anime. Quite sad to D:

It's demographic is male, but I would think it'd be considered a "girl" anime. Like Clannad, there were moments where I cried a bit, but I was surprised when I saw it. It's still really good, regardless.
And Vampire Knight is alright...I guess..

Some of the greatest animes ever...
i dont cry for anything, but Clannad After Story just broke me ... it just makes you tremble, its great anime, and i dont find a reason in labeling it 'girl' anime ....
If you cry at anime, tht means its good 😉
Shit, son. Let's cry together.
When Ryuuji and Taiga kissed. Cried.
When Yuuichi finally finds out that Ayu is alive. Cried. When Akiki got hit by a car. Cried. YUUICHI, ARE YOU A MIRACLE WORKER??
Tomoyo and Nagisa? BEAUTIFUL.
Let's cry together, bro.
Those three anime are what really got me into Anime.
girl animes? maybe they mean girly anime's cause guys dont wanna watch romance? if your a guy and watching it i really dont see how you find it entertaining o.O
The only type of show i would possibly consider a girl anime is a reverse harem... i Don't know how you could watch that.
