Social Media Login

However, if I would benefit the SEO and activity of the forum, I wouldn't be against it.

This is how I feel too

I prefer social through Google just because I'd rather get emails from them than have it auto post something on twitter/facebook/whatever, even though I don't use them anymore (not using my primary email ofc). Makes it a little faster not having to create an account.
I haven't done anything like that for a forum though, I'd probably prefer setting up an account the standard way for something like that. Anything I'd intend on visiting often and participating in discussions with a username, I would opt to create a username and account the longer way personally.

This feedback is good. It's likely going to push this back on development list.

Previous MyBB developer Shade invested a lot of time on Flyover for MyBB, which accomplishes a lot if not everything you might want to do with regards to social media (and other platforms) login on Hack Forums.

I definitely don't think social login should replace the regular login system.

Maybe even okay if you just link an account to whatever service.  But I don't like doing that because it's less secure.

If it was implemented in a smart way (which if you or xerotic were to do that I'm sure it would be) I think it could benefit.  As the forum is modernizing and whatnot could help those people that do 100% love the social logins.

So I guess that's my opinion as long as it's done right it can be secure and benefit a lot of new members.

But I don't like the idea of registering thru services like that unless it just auto fills information from the accounts and creates an account like normal.

Sorry for the ramble im drunk.

I personally would not link my social media accounts to HF.
However, I believe that newcommers will use this function depending on what they want to spend their time on the forum on.
It is about making the registration process easier.
If both login methods existed, then everyone would be satisfied. You get to choose which method you prefer and that's good. I wouldn't use it personally, since I don't like linking my Google or Facebook accounts with other sites, but that's just me. Someone else might find it easier and most likely to join that way.
Would current users use it? Maybe, but I don’t think it should be meant for the current user base but instead for the new type of user it’ll bring in. Anyone who owns a site and has implemented social media logins knows that it increases user count, but the quality of these people that join changes. For example, when I added it to my site I found that the new influx of users was usually people who weren't very tech savvy or were heavily debating on making an account. Had they had to take longer than 30 seconds to join, as with custom logins, then they may have changed their mind and not joined at all. And if a larger audience is what you want to attract and introduce into HF, then social media login is the way to go.
I would love an option to login with google
I only use social media (google) to access our portal in my work but when it comes to personal, I don't use it. Adding it as an option would be nice for other members to keep them from the hassle.

This isn't the type of site I would generally use it on tbh.
since I trust social login much, I don't want to see it on here
It really depends on the site I am logging in to. But if you incorporate this, I believe you will get more users to join since it is easy to just click that social button.

As long as it doesnt change the way I login as is. I say yes for newer members.
Sm login is only good for simple sites. Pretty dumb to use it on a forum in my opinion
