If HF converted our Login to use social media like Google and Facebook would you use it? Actually let me as this another way. Do you prefer websites use a custom login or your social media login?
Social Media Login |

Sometimes when I am not sure if I am really interested in the content a website has to offer, I may sign up with a throwaway gmail because it is quicker. From all the sites I have signed up with a throwaway gmail, I didn't become a frequent visitor to any of them. I think that if the registration is too easy, a lot of low quality members will sign up.

I would say Google and Telegram would be the best options probably.
Also with telegram, you can even have a message notification sent to your telegram about the failed/successful login attempt, and if successful login it require that you either authorize the login or lock your account from that telegram message in addition to providing you with the time:ip:location of the attempt.
Bleh
I hate data-linking service to service. For example Google, Facebook and other services are not very privacy-oriented. I don't want them being able to link me to other profiles on the internet, and vice-versa.
But not everybody is so privacy-oriented so I could see this working, so long as there were still the option to register without using social media. Whenever I see a service that requires me to sign up with Google, or Facebook, something like that, I instantly look for an alternative service because I despise that
If given the choice between creating an account or using a pre existing social media account to register, I will choose the account creation process 100% of the time.
Despite convenience, I fear having too much linked to any one account makes me vulnerable and attacks against that account more devastating. Not something I usually like to risk.

My thinking is about new visitors who are probably used to joining and signing in with social media. And I know it's much more convenient on mobile to login with Google. Basically a couple clicks and you're in. I'm not a huge fan of the social media login but I can't allow my personal preference to be the only deciding factor when it comes to attracting a new audience and updating HF to newer standards.
Quote:Absolutely not. OAuth gateways allow those services to know about the sites and services you use. It's none of Google's business if I use Hack Forums. We can agree on that but does a fresh visitor who is 15-17 feel the same way? This is how I look at it myself. I also created my email address for the sole purpose of confirming accounts such as this. Facebook is too personal for HF.

I would never login through social media, even if my information was not stored or I was reassured it would never be shared, I would genuinely be uncomfortable logging in, no matter what reassurances were given and I dont even do illegal stuff. In the back of mind I would always be thinking "Do I really want any of this information to touch hackforums?" and the answer is no 100/100 times. Just is something I shy away from even on a sub-conscious level.
I'd never use this personally. I mean no offence but it's true, there is something about a forum with RAT ads at the top and me thinking about ever putting my social media information on it or associating with it that does not feel right, at all.
My discord linked to my account was deleted, do not add me on discord to do deals, please start a contract/send a message!
