As if we would apply the logic of "hostbooter" being a P2P-bot, then we could just say IRC, HTTP are P2P-protocols.. But nowadays malware using a (raw) TCP-socket to interference have given a whole new and wrong defenition to P2P. A bot using this TCP-socket technique as engine for the client and server to interference is the best (but it isn't a P2P-network). But for the botmaster to interference with the server would using HTTP be excellent as it provides a widely known and implented protocol. It also has the ability to present some nice appeal for the eye.

Well people call "hostbooter" a P2P-bot but I am almost certain that it's a centralized botnet. I see your point and it's valid.

I've always had in mind that raw sockets were faster. True on that one but if a botnet were to be operated through HTTP , then the company would have blocked any site other then the ones they use. They would also analyse all the traffic even the HTTP-traffic.
