The Cryptography Section

Hello Omni, iBF, moderators, and fellow HF members.

Since Omni created the cryptography section a few months ago, it has steadily gone downhill. The section's description clearly states "For discussion on keys, ciphers, and algorithms often used to keep information secret". In reading this, stenography, cracking and decryption techniques (anything from brute forcing to rainbow tables to birthday attacks), and algorithm development automatically come to mind. Maybe even the occasional help thread for hash cracking. I see the section as a place for beginners to learn the basics of true cryptography.

Unfortunately, the section is being completely overrun with threads such as "CRYPT MY LOGGER!!!", or "FUD MY RAT PLOX".

I find it sad that what could be an excellent section has instead been turned into a place where skiddies go to get their stupid tools undetected by the AV's.

I'm humbly requesting that a seperate section be made for that purpose: Crypting, "FUD'ing", etc so that the cryptography section will be left alone for its intended purpose.
I agree. Almost every forum in the Hacking board is filled with request threads. Omni probably isn't going to do anything about this either, as people have suggested request forums for various sections, to no avail.
There should be a sub forum in "Service Offerings" Called "Requests", imo, then it can all go there.
This happened to the rat section as well. Explaining why I dont go there much anymore. Its filled with "HELP PLZZ" "FUD PLZ"

That would work as well. The problem is simply that the cryptography section is getting littered with fairly off-topic shit. I'm open to anything that'll help. 🙂
The section doesn't look nearly as bad as you make it sound.
I recommend a sub forum in the cryptography section.
Something along the lines of "Requests".
That would help filter out the spam.
As Omni said, it's not nearly as bad as you make it seem.

However, I DO agree with an entire subforum for "Requests".

That way we can place threads like those, the annoying Youtube comment requests, and other simple stuff like that in there.

They're in the wrong forum then. Now, what happens when something is in the wrong section? A mod has to move it. What's the easiest way to bring their attention to it? Report the threads. So report them.

I do agree with a request section though.
Requests are all over the place. I don't see how this will overall as a category be distinctive.

Well, the main reason I agree with the requests subforum is mostly for those pesky Youtube comment request threads, lmao.

Those go in the lounge along with the services to do it. 😝

I know WHERE they go, but they're just a pain in there, heh.

If those threads are the problem I'd be more inclined to move them into a their own category subforum for promotion/spam. These aren't any type of legit requests just like the Hacking Requests section was created to deal with the BS in beginner hacking.
I suppose if you look at the bigger picture, the problem expands outside the boundaries of the cryptography section and into many other sections as well. It's a question of how to organize the sections and subsections, and there's not really an easy or definitive answer. However, I think I don't speak just for myself when I say that some of this stuff gets fairly annoying, so deciding upon even a partial solution could be seen as a major improvement.
