Summary:
Season 1
The year is 1944 and the world lives in fear of unidentified flying objects called Neuroi. With the old-boy old guard unable to thwart this deadly menace, humanity turns its desperate eyes to an aerial attack force with much nicer legs. Meet the girls of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, better known as the Strike Witches. These darlings of the great blue yonder may not have standard issue uniforms, but they do have all the right stuff. Where the average flyboy falters, these dolls blast aliens to bits in the bat of an eyelash. With a little magic and a whole lot of leg, the girls of the 501st are winning the war on pants, and aliens!
Season 2
After discovering that Neuroi are capable of communication with humans and making peace with the nest above Gallia the Witches squads are now on a mission to re-establish communication when a sudden attack vanishes the Neuroi; they now discover a new and massive nest that just appeared covering almost all Europe. Ruthless and without mercy it annihilates allied forces along with Witches. Word of the attack reaches Fuso and a support battalion is deployed to rescue the survivors. Among the rescue team is the former Striker captain Mio Sakamoto and the now civilian Yoshika Miyafuji who want to save their dear friends.

Review:
Plot:
The plot to strike witches was a bit.... nonexistent.. At least for a while.
They made an interesting decision with the series, and decided to focus almost solely on fanservice for the entire series, and then threw in some plot when there was only 2-3 episodes left.
After the disappointment of the first season, I decided to give season 2 a chance. Unsurprisingly, it followed almost the exact same basis as before. Some people consider season 2 to be filled with even more ridiculous fan service than the first season, which can be good or bad depending on your taste. Surprisingly enough, MAL has season 2 ranked higher overall.
If you watch anime for any form of plot, don't even try to watch this, because you'll be disappointed. If you're a fan of ecchi, boobies, and LOTS of pantie shots, then you'll probably enjoy this one.
Characters:
Development-wise, Strike Witches did an alright job. It didn't go deep into the past of very many characters to tell more about them, but it did show the main character slowly befriending all of the other witches, and let you get to know them more.
The witches were fairly abstract actually. There were people like Charlotte E. Yeager, who was pretty much only there for the fanservice, and then there were characters like Francesca Lucchini, who just make you say, "OMFG CUTTEEE".
It also seemed that ~30% of the characters were obsessed with breasts, and would constantly grope each other to see if they were growing at all.
The most unnecessary thing about the characters, imo, is that none of them ever wore pants. Even when the main character was in school, all of the girls only ever wore shirts and pantsu. It was also heavily implied that no one had more than 1 pair of underwear.
Thoughts:
Overall, I can completely say, it wasn't even close to being a great anime. However, being someone who isn't huge on ecchi, it may actually be decent for that genre.
My biggest complaint is that they didn't have any plot until the very end of each season. If you're going to do it like that, then either stick with no plot, or use a bunch, but I don't believe you can be lukewarm about it.
There were also many questions left unanswered, probably due to the fact that they only had ~4 episodes with plot in them.
All that criticism being said, the anime wasn't necessarily bad, it just wasn't great. I watched through the whole thing in a couple of days, so just the fact that I could watch and finish it in that time says that it wasn't horrible.
Honestly, the concept of Strike Witches is decent. If they wouldn't have soaked every other frame with fanservice, and would have focused more on the plot, I believe it could have been a very decent series.
My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★ 7/10
MAL Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★ 7.4/10
