Go with ubuntu, then to something more advanced. Otherwise you're jumping to someone too advanced, ubuntu is advanced enough for someone who's used to W7.

He wants to get used to linux, not a OS that's nothing like Windows which is just gonna end up with him going back to Windows (referring to crunchbang).

I tried mint as a beginner and had anxiety about using my laptop which has mint.

Then I tried ubuntu and fell in love.

If you are not going to challenge yourself then you won't get anywhere. And CrunchBang is not hard.

3 commands that you will have to get used to and you are fine. Google will help him a lot and then they have a good help pages.

Ubuntu is a distro that wipes your ass. Using it won't get you anywhere if you intend on learning anything and while it is heavy as fuck and you need +1.5GB RAM to be able to use it. He has 1GB. Ubuntu is the WORST choice he can make.

And then it is down to personal opinions if you like Ubuntu layout or Mint. Mint is the better choice for many reason. For example it is not as much bloated with programs that you will never use.

I can see what CPU you have and RAM. Nothiing more...

But anyways. Crunchbang, Linux Mint are good distros for beginners and do not need to much resources.

All right, I'd downloaded Ubuntu 64 bit , my mistake :o it couldn't be installed via virtual machine, I checked others like Mint, Slackware & arch, finally I'm downloading Arch for now ;) Will also check others time to time :)

you as a beginner will probably end up in really lot of trouble with Arch. Go with Manjaro Linux before going to full time Arch. 😅

I'd say Mint is better than Ubuntu..imo.
Ubuntu became too much nooby and with the Amazon implementation..eww.

I'd agree with you, especially if you're new to linux.
