Simple question, does RATing make you a hacker/is it hacking?
source
There seems to be a lot of arguing going on in this section regarding RATing's stance in "hacking"
Let me break it down for people who don't know what a RAT is, even though most of you do.
RATing is when you send someone an infected link laced with a Silent Java Drive By/Reg Java Drive by or an infected download that grants the attacker master backdoor access to someones computer.
With the RAT on the machine we can analyze files, execute commands, view through victims webcam, view their desktop etc etc.
So what's the process of RATing?
Point and click basically.
Download a program, set up no-ip, build server, spread server, gain slaves.
Does this REALLY seem like hacking? You probably thought hacking looked like fucking around in a *nix terminal throwing commands like top and netstat. But nope, people do consider RATing hacking.
There are also bind/reverse payloads which serve the same purpose, but it's not really point and clicking, there is executing commands as well. But that's not the point.
My thoughts:
I don't really consider RATing hacking, mainly for the sole reason it's more of a point & click process. BUT, also, in the technical terms it is "hacking" because you're illegally gaining access to someones system/network according to Wikipedia and other sources, if you understand the entire process, like why you use port forwarding and you understand how the commands were made(not just, oh, they programmed it, like cold hard detail is what I mean) etc then sure by all means go ahead.
But if you're someone who downloads Dark Comet to take peoples runescape accounts and claim you're a hacker then i don't even know.
So the whole point is, do you think RATing makes you a hacker/hacking?
You can use this layout to make it nice and neat :)
Quote:A hacker is someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network.
