Not only does it matter by the type of attack, it depends on how strong the servers defense are and what type of server you are talking about.

Layer 7 is for the application layer... all of those layer 7 methods you listed are for web servers, which means they will do jack squat to the game server. Best bet, as already stated, is SSYN sent against an open port, but if the source IP address is not spoofed every packet, it will likely not be effective at all.
