Synopsis:
Hasegawa Kodaka has transferred schools, and he's having a hard time making friends. It doesn't help that his blond hair tends to make people think he's a delinquent. One day, he runs into his bad-tempered solitary classmate Yozora while she's talking animatedly to her imaginary friend Tomo. Realizing that neither of them have any actual friends, they decide that the best way to alter this situation is to form a club and start recruiting.

Kodaka Hasegawa:
Kodaka, being one of the three main characters in this series, is depicted as a delinquent because of his rough looking hair and his rolled up pants. His hair is a mixture of blonde and brown, being because his father is Japanese but his mother is of an English heritage. Kodaka has always had thought of dying his hair, but ever since his mother's death he says that it's his "only link with [his] mum" because only his younger sister, Kobato Hasegawa looks like his mum and he looks like his father.. He also has a perpetual angry look a lot of the time, so everyone is afraid of him thus most of the time when he tries to act friendly it backfires and people run away.
Yozora Mikazuki:
Yozora is the founder of the Neighbors club, initially the club's role was to bring her and Kodaka together and become friends again as they once were before Kodaka left the town. She doesn't have any friends because she hates "normals", this having an "air friend" who she calls "Tomo-chan". At the first season of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, she is shown with long hair. In the next season, she cuts her hair shorter because there was an incident at a festive her and the Neighbors Club attended, and Kodaka finally realizes who Yozora really is.
Sena Kashiwazaki:
The third main character introduced is named Sena Kashiwazaki. She is the daughter of the Headmaster of Chronica Academy; a school where they all attend, Pegasus Kashiwazaki. She is a jack-of-all-trades students; achieving top marks in exams, being a top athlete in the school, and is also know to be very pretty and popular amongst the male students at the school who call her 'Sena-sama'. Although she is popular at school with the males, she desires true friends and thus is the reason why she joined the Neighbors Club. In the Neighbors Club, she is called Meat by Yozora, and this turns out to be her first ever nickname.
Kobato Hasegawa:
The younger sister of Kodaka, and a supporting role in the series. Kobato is to be known as a middle-schooler who grows an obsession of an anime series called 'Kurogane no Necromancer', which explains her appearances of wearing dark clothing and having 2 different eye colours. During the Neighbors Club, she is called 'Poopy Vampire', by Maria; they always end up in an argument and whenever her brother's attention is going towards Maria, she becomes angry. Despite the fights, they become really close friends. On another note, whenever she talks, she always has a habit of starting with "ku ku ku".
Yukimura Kusunoki:
Yukimura was introduced as a stalker of Kodaka. When she came to ask for the Neighbors Club's help, she said she was being bullied by the other guys because when she changed in front of them, they all ran away (this is because she claimed that she is a guy). Yukimura has a need to think that she is a man, and join the Neighbors Club to observe Kodaka to somehow become a 'man'. Through this, she becomes an underling of Kodaka and wishes to serve him, and if she thinks she is useless she always wants to commit seppuku.
Rika Shiguma:
Rika is another supporting character in the developing series. She is known to be a genius inventor, and attends St. Chronica's academy so that school may have more of a name. An incident where she fell unconscious, Kodaka saved her and she wants to repay him with sex, and apparently joins the Neighbors Club to get closer to him, at first. Despite her intelligence, Rika is extremely perverted and is essentially the most sexually straight-forward member of the club, this meaning that she can read any sex scene passages, mimic moans and groans. She fancies machinery and Yaoi. Although she may be perverted, she is one to care the most about the members in the club, and is always optimistic.
Maria Takayama:
Maria is an unofficial sister of the St. Chronica's Academy (only revealed in the second season). She is the supervising teacher and moderator of the Neighbors' Club and is a ten-year old nun. While being exceptionally gifted in academics, she is also very rude and immature, and often uses a variety of expletives when annoyed. She develops a sibling-like relationship with Kodaka, who regularly makes her packed lunches, and is affectionate with him. She is both naive and gullible, often getting her fooled by Yozora's trickery.
My thoughts:
- I really like the series, it's full of fun and laughter. The graphic representation is really good, the colours used were flowing all together (some anime have colors trying to blend in, and I'm not a huge fan of that, but whatever). There were many scenes with nudity (some loli, since Maria is 10, and Kobato is in Middle-school, but there was no problem. No sexual encounters whatsoever, but the voice-acting from the characters were very well done! The plot was very good, it had a clear contention, overall I give it a rating of 8/10.
Recommendations:
If you enjoyed watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and/or Clannad, then this Anime would definitely be for you. The series is filled with endless laughter, and I must admit, some of the scenes get me all hot and bothered. I would recommend this to anyone (since this has mild nudity, I guess it should be over 16 at the very least). 😊😏
