[Talk] Share your protection setup

[Image: 2xNRisW.png]

Hey guys, Yoan here aka Aura with a discussion thread for you 🙂 (just using the presentation form to piss off Chief 👹 )

So I would like to know what you are using as protection setup for your computer : Antivirus, Antimalware, protection utilities, etc. It would be nice to see who here have a decent setup, who doesn't give a damn about it and who goes totally overkill.

You could fill this simple form if needed
Code
[color=#1E90FF][b]Antivirus :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Firewall :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Antimalware :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Protection Utilities :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Web Browser :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Web Browser Extensions/Addons :[/b][/color]
[color=#1E90FF][b]Others :[/b][/color]

I'll start, let's see what I'm using ! 🙂

Antivirus : Emsisoft Internet Security 12
Firewall : Emsisoft Internet Security 12
Antimalware: Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium (Real-Time);
Protection Utilities : None.
Web Browser : Google Chrome 64-bit
Web Browser Extensions/Addons : uBlock, Web of Trust (WOT), Tampermonkey (for userscripts), HTTPSEverywhere, LastPass.
Others : Nope, that's it 🙂

Now it's your turn, let's see what everyone here is using !

PS: I might edit this post a few time along this thread to add more and more programs/utilities/etc.

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.
lol you piss of Chief a lot Yoan.

Antivirus : Well ever since Comodo and Avast slowed my PC down, I have MSE.
Firewall : Windows Firewall
Antimalware : MBAM
Protection Utilities :None
Others : CCleaner, and SecurityCheck.

Aura, Is MBAM an AV or is it suppose to infect me with its malware?
(He gets ticked off to)

You stupid ! 😝
For anyone wondering is Malwarebytes is really an Antivirus, it's not. I even wrote a small "guide" on it :

LOL, Aura you always get ticked off everytime I ask you that :D
Idk why ppl see it as an AV as it clearly has The word malware in it and Anti Malware.

Antivirus :Avast! free. Hmm, i was thinking about paying for Bitdefender or Kaspersky, but i feel Avast! is enough for me.
Firewall :Comodo
Antimalware :MBAM, Adwcleaner, Roguekiller.
Protection Utilities : Keyscrambler and i assume i list Chameleon here also.
Others : Ccleaner
Now I know what you meant when you said you will lose something valuable.
Antivirus :Avast (I switch a lot due to reviews & studies)
Firewall :None at the moment
Antimalware :The basic TFC, ADW, RK, Hitmanpro, Roguekiller, and Malwarebytes PRO
Protection Utilities :None
Others :None.

Well, Chameleon is part of Malwarebytes, it's a technology that is included in Malwarebytes 😝 So it would belong in Antimalware I guess.

Yeah I wasn't expecting that setup, isn't your "main" Antivirus Bitdefender or Comodo ?

Yes, Comodo. The thing is I always switch for educational purposes.
Antivirus : Windows Defender
Firewall : Windows Firewall
Antimalware : Malwarebytes (not active; just for scans).
Protection Utilities : None
Others : Process Hacker 2 running with System privileges via PsExec

True, I forgot about that.

I'm actually a Windows 7 user; I strongly dislike Windows 8 😉

Were you not using Microsoft Security Essentials at some point ?

I was, but then I switched to no AV. I really don't need one :)

Well I created a thread right for you (and your ex-MSE) :

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=4067328

Don't think like that, it could cause your loss lol. Even me and Chief are using an Antivirus and we're pretty aware of the risks of not using one. Even if we know our way around Computer Security, better be safe than sorry.

Antivirus :
  • None. I have no localized antivirus on my system.

Firewall :
  • I have both hardware and software. For software, I use on demand firewall monitoring software locally. Meaning it is only on / running when I believe it should be and when I am doing a review/check.

Antimalware :
  • I do have Malwarebytes installed with the professional edition. I also have all the programs you'd use for cleaning up all sorts of malware, rescue disks, etc.

Protection Utilities :
  • Custom encryption software with TrueCrypt for less 'private' items. Also have the multiple hardware firewalls as mentioned before, plus clean backups of my system load image for easy network or bootable disk reimaging/ghosting my whole drive. This process also has automated scripts to install, update, import all my data that is new since the last image.

Others :
  • The backup system I have allows me to have a spare single SSD (vs my RAID SSD's) that's already prepared with all the essentials to get me online in case of work or such. Also have the images and backups for a bit slower process of getting it back up and perfect without much input or time (1 hour tops).
    Beyond this for 'Others' I could say I have my internal networks segregated and on other networks, so my testing machines and work network is not on my 'public internal' (wife, media center, guest room, public access shares). Both of which are not on my internal house servers, VPN's, personal desktop, my laptops, my phones, etc.

I don't feel like diving into this in detail or what/how I do my security at the moment (tired, just got done with overtime, yay 3x pay).
