Application Download Speed vs Actual Internet Speed

In before butt hurt people quoting rule about not talking about torrents, I'm talking about Torrent applications themselves and as a matter of fact any application that uses the internet to download

On my router settings, my router shows the download limit at 6372 kbps with my upload only around 1000kbps, also when I do the http://speedtest.net/ test I get about 6.3 Mbps which sounds about right, but whenever I torrent or even download via lets say Google chrome the maximum speed in TOTAL I can download at is 600-700 kbps.

Example, lets say I have 4 torrents downloading they will all run at different speeds but will all amount to about 700 kbps. If I download something via my browser it will show the download working at 700 kbps and less but again adding to the total of 700 kbps if multiple downloads are involved.

Why does my router and speedtest.net indicate a 6.3 Mbps download speed but at maximum pushing it I can only hit 700 kbps (and thats when no other family member is connected to the router then it will also take into account what their download speed is and add it to this so-called 700 kbps limit. Is there anything I can do to make this "limit" increased.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
6MBps is about 700-800KBps. Might be confusing bits and bytes.

But my router shows 6372 kbps, so confused lol
kbit is not kbyte

8 bit = 1 byte

6373kbit :8 = 796kbyte
so you download speed is as it should be

speed test sites often just display it differently, bit rather then byte, while actual speed in torrents ect. is displayed in byte
Human stupidity : Buying something they have no clue about, and then ask if they wasted their money.

You need to check your math and understanding of bit vs byte: 6MBps (6000kbps) > 700-800kbps. But 6Mbps is around 700-800kBps.

Your router shows maximum download limit. It does not mean that you will get it. In most cases you will not and with torrents all over the world and connected through different plans, your speed is rather normal. I think you might hit the limit if you download something from Steam or Microsoft.

Don't mean to be that guy but you got that backwards: 6Mbps = 768KBps, but 6MBps = 48Mbps = 49152 Kbps.

Just a typo. That Kbps should be KBps.

Ok worked out the problem with the Kb and KB, thanks I understand now :) My internet download speed is what it says it is, wish it was faster :(
Your download speed is always 1/8th of your broadband speed.
