I think this thread is an excellent idea. I have only recently started looking at the White Hat section but I have noticed the ungodly amount of threads on this subject. Would be nice for everything to be compiled.

We could compile all these threads in one but this question is asked so many times a day ... People don't even notice the excellent sticky by Chief on this question too.

You have really good specs so I would go with either Avast! free or Avira free. Really up to you. You can also check out Comodo if you want (Comodo Antivirus 2014).

All these threads wouldn't even be created if people were reading the excellent sticky thread from Chief, but they don't.

Most of them think they will get the best answer if they do a separate thread.
A lot of us know which are the best antiviruses and keep suggesting the same suggestions over and over again.

You want a paid Antivirus with these specs, ESET Smart Security. It will go easy on your resources but still offers one of the best protection there is. Kaspersky and ESET are the two best Antiviruses companies but Kaspersky products uses a bit more resources than ESET products and you want to avoid that right now. So ESET Smart Security would be my pick. 350 Euros a year for three licences ? What Antivirus do you use ?

Norton is one of the worst Antivirus there is, but it's hop to you. The company Symantec is great, I respect them when it comes to see them as a IT Security Company and all, but their products just sucks for some reason.

Specs: AMD A4-5000 APU 1.50Ghz with 6GB of RAM
I am using McAfee IS at the moment because I got it for free, and I refuse to use Avira.
