Introduction

Hello, I'm Nick. I joined Hack Forums in August of 2012. I honestly do not remember why I joined Hack Forums, but my main theories are that I wanted to view a thread that I was unable to view as a non-registered member, or simply... I wanted free stuff! 😏

Anyways, after I joined, I was not very active. I came on once every blue moon and I posted when I felt like it. Around New Year's Day 2014, I began to become far more active. I thoroughly enjoyed posting more and making new connections. Around February, thanks to being accepted into the Empire's now extinct gaming sector, I started really becoming active. I've taken great pleasure out of helping people here and I love the new people I've met and the new experiences I've encountered.

I felt it was my duty to create this thread as I've wanted to let everyone know how awesome Hack Forums is and how it's shaped who I am for a long while now. If I can help a great site become just a tad bit greater, that would be amazing!

So here it is, "Trust's 2.5k Posts, Almost Two Years Feedback Thread!"

Group Feedback

Let's start this thread off with the usual, "Group Feedback." I will address the groups that I've been a part of thoroughly. I will not give my opinions on groups that I have not been a part of as I cannot judge a group without seeing how they truly operate.

Ah Infamous, 'tis a wonderful group. However, this is my honest feedback, so I will give my complete honest opinion of Infamous. It really is a great group, there are many quality threads in the subforum and a great group of leaders. I do have to criticize, however, the fact that the group is not as prestigious as it used to be. It used to be that only the best of the best were accepted in, now it's anyone who had some spare cash. I know that Judge Dredd has good and honorable reasons for accepting buy-ins, but it just doesn't feel right. Although, yes, there are many, many quality threads, the subforum feels empty at times and I don't see a lot of new posts flooding through. It somewhat feels as though it's still going through it's transition from Complexity, but when everything is said, done, and settled, I see a bright and prosperous future for the new Infamous.____

____

I've only been in this group for about three weeks, but if there's someone I'd really love to suck up to, it's Cryptic™. He's such an amazing leader of the Brotherhood, I've seen him post more times in the Brotherhood subforum in my first week than I've seen other leaders post in a group's subforum for months. He seems to care more about the group and it's users than making money off of the group. Now, on to the group itself. The Brotherhood is the definition of family. Everyone is so nice to each other and there to support one another. It's a wonderful group and it makes me want to be active in it's subforum. If you're looking to be a part of a great group, the Brotherhood is for you!____

____

This was the first group that gave me a chance on Hack Forums and I am eternally thankful for that. The subforum is probably the most active group subforum on Hack Forums as well, I'd average it gets around five hundred posts per day. Every leader is insanely nice and active. I do have to give some criticism towards the group, however. You have to be a part of the clique or you go relatively unnoticed. It seems like the leaders favor some members over other members, which is understandable, but highly annoying. Overall, the Empire is one of the best groups on all of Hack Forums so I have only one thing to say to sum this up. "Long Live the Empire!"____

____

I've literally been in this group for a whopping two days. I honestly used to think that Instinct was a troll group and was rather surprised to hear it's main focus was gaming. After a while of criticizing the group, I decided to give it a chance, and so far, I'm glad I did. The leaders are great people, especially Vinnie and Craze. The subforum seems active enough and keeps my attention. What really got my attention though, were the lenient rules. Most groups try so/too hard to be high quality and uptight, but Instinct... It's refreshing to be part of a group where no-one cares who you are or where you come from, but you can just sit back and talk/game with others who share same interests. I'm really excited to see how my time in Instinct goes and ready to game with some of it's members.

____

Don't even get me started on Respawn. When I first got accepted by Skitlz, I was ecstatic. Finally, I could have someone to game with! My first day as a member of Respawn was great, there was so much activity as it was still a new (yet old) group and everything was centered on gaming. Then, the storm happened. Skitlz was mad at Astonish and Astonish was mad at Skitlz and everyone was mad at everyone and so on and so forth. Astonish announced that he would be kicking 90% of the group for no apparent reason, what's a gaming group with no gamers in it? Ah, classic Astonish. At first I didn't believe the stories, but then they came true. Soon, members were coming forward with how terrible the group was becoming and how Astonish was nowhere to be seen half the time. To be fair, when I was in the group, I saw Skitlz do everything, the only post I saw by Astonish was him kicking everyone. If you want a good, quality gaming group, stay away from Respawn, try Instinct.

Staff Feedback

This is my feedback on the staff of Hack Forums.

Omniscient:

Omniscient is a great admin, he posts regularly, he works his butt off, and he sure as hell doesn't get enough credit for the work he puts into the forum. However, even a man as great as Omni needs some constructive criticism. He tends to make rash judgements very quickly. Take, let's say, when Omni removed the old school theme as an 3P1C only feature. Sure, people were complaining and making stupid conclusions on how Omni was money hungry, but that's how people usually react to sudden changes. The quick closing of all those accounts because they said something negative about it was rather, in a word, childish. Still, I've seen him make great judgement calls in the past and this forum is still standing as one of the most popular forums on the internet, so obviously, he's doing something right.

Xch4ng3:

I'd honestly love to see him/her post a ton more. He/she seems like a great guy/gal. From what I do see, he/she is a great admin, always ready and eager to help recover accounts or catch multi-accounters. Still... I'd love to see him/her post a ton more, I'd love to get to know him/her more, but I completely understand that he/she has a life and things to do as well.

Factor8™:

I am not going to give any feedback or opinions on this staff member as I rarely see he/she post at all and it would seem unfair to judge someone without knowing the slightest thing about them.

Judge Dredd:

Oh boy, Judge Dredd... I can safely say that he is a bigger troll than Omni. Still, he's one of the funniest and most outgoing staff on these forums and he lays down the law when he has to. Without him, this forum would be riddled with low-quality posts, and terrible trolls. Occasionally he can seem like a cocky prick, but once you truly get to know him, he's a truly great, caring guy.

Paradoxum:

Paradoxum is definitely one of the best staff members of any forum. He/she has just the right balance of forgiveness and justice. His/her work with HF MRT is outstanding, the work he/she does... You don't get a lot of staff like Paradoxum these days. I've never seem him/her overreact in any way or make a rash judgement, but rather, he/she seems perfect in everything he/she does. He/she is also very, very active so getting a good conversation with him isn't hard.

I am not going to write feedback for RDCA or Viral Dragon as they are both new staff members and judging them now would be unfair.

How can Hack Forums be Improved?

Hack Forums is a wonderful place, but naturally, there's always room for improvement. Perhaps, instead of randomly announcing changes, have some community votes to see what the members want. I understand this isn't a democracy, but a little bit of power to the people never hurt anyone.

Something that involves the entire community would also be great. Perhaps like a meeting day or a sitewide gaming night.

The line, "any form of thanks is appreciated" from giveaway hosts should be classified as rep abuse. It's obviously another way of asking for reputation, and if you're serious about helping others selflessly, you shouldn't want to require thanks from people.

MOTM should be highly improved. A way to disallow posts on the thread, or have discussion be disallowed on it would fix it. Just vote on the poll for who you think honestly deserves it, not your best friend.

There should be better moderation of the e-whoring section as pornography sites and downloads for pornography are posted there daily with no consequences.

The "Will do anything for money." threads in the "Rewards and Small Favors" subforum should be classified as begging for money. Post what you will do and what your skills are, or it's essentially begging for money.

Site Design

I quite like the design of the site currently, but it's a rather dark and dreary color scheme. Perhaps some sort of yellow or white theme would be great. The theme gives the impression that this is a blackhat forum, when in actuality, it is not. Hell, more than half of the posts aren't even about hacking. Overall, the site design is near perfect, just a few minor adjustments and it would be perfection.

Ease of Use

Hack Forums is relatively easy to use and requires little to no thought. Still, the Help Docs could definitely use a revision and the answers could be quite easier to find. Uploading an avatar could be smoother often, sometimes, even with clearing cache, it takes a while to update and doesn't accept the file half of the time. Really, if you're not incredibly stupid, take a second to think and nothing on this site is hard to use.

Best Subforums

This is for the best subforums on Hack Forums!

HF News:
What would Hack Forums be without HF News to keep us updated with the happenings around Hack Forums? I've gained so much knowledge through the collective efforts of the HF News team. This section is truly one of a kind and I am very thankful that it's there.

The Lounge:
How can you not consider the most active subforum one of the greatest? I find myself in this subforum more often than I'd like, but I'm not complaining. There are so many topics of so many sorts, it's truly amazing what you can find.

Free Services and Giveaways:
Ignore the tiny $0.01 giveaways and you've got a great subforum with users willing to give back to the community. There's not many places on the internet like it and the selfless giving is one of a kind.

White Hat Help:
Similar to Free Services and Giveaways, the amount of users selflessly helping others with no personal gain is astounding. Truly a sight to see how the helpful the users in this subforum truly are.

Worst Subforums

Sadly, there are subforums that aren't too great around Hack Forums.

E-Whoring:
As many others have said, this is almost the same as a Social Engineering forum and is almost equally illegal. Also, the amount of pornography sites and image downloads in this subforum are truly astounding. The worst subforum on Hack Forums by far.

Beginner Hacking:
No-one in this section wants to learn. Everyone treats this subforum like the Requests for Hacking subforum and demands other users to hack that one site of that one guy that was mean to them once.

Giveaways:
Posting a giveaway here? You should just label the thread, "I Want Rep Desperately, but Don't Want People Outside of This Subforum to Know That."

Gay Fucking Requests Cuz You Want Free Shit:
Pretty much the inverse of the Giveaways subforum. If you post here you should label your thread, "Give Me Stuff Because I Might Rep You."

Closure

I'm honestly running out of things to critique, so I'm going to end this thread here. I sincerely hope this thread helps influence the future of Hack Forums. Without Hack Forums, I don't know where I'd be, or what I'd be doing, so whatever I can do to better it, I'll do.

I'll most likely think of something else that needs feedback and add to this thread in the future, but for now, this should suffice.

Thank you all so much for reading this as I spent almost all of my day making it.

On your part on The Empire, that's somewhat true, there are members, like yourself, who go relatively unnoticed. However, that's by choice. All you have to do is talk with the members more, interact with some of the more known members, etc. Everyone that is known in that group started out at the same point you did. Many of the "popular" users in the group and on the site in general were barely known before joining the group, but they talked, made friends, gained popularity that way. Look at Tom for example, joined less than 6 or so weeks ago, already one of the most popular members, and has been for a few weeks now. Look at the leaders, Evangelist, Eternal, xadamxk, and vitafortis were all unknown before joining the group, but they made an impression on the leadership and myself at the time and became popular members.

You want to be known? You got to speak up, start some conversations with other members, post a thread or two, hop on skype with other members, etc. Groups can be quite a bit of fun and very beneficial for you here, you just have to make the most of it.

I completely understand that, I was just stating what I've seen so far.
Overall, the Empire is a great group with great people and great leaders.

AWWW YEAH ! The White Hat Help section made it into your best sections category, I'm proud of that 😎
Fiat justitia ruat cælum

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.
Great feedback thread, looks High Quality.

Hey, the Beginner Hacking section is not that bad. Give it a chance bruh, a lot of it is just some questions new users have with wanting to start a foundation in very basic hacking fundamentals.

It's certainly not the worst subforum on the forum, but it's nowhere near a remotely good one.

Remember, these are simply my opinions.
Everyone is entitled to their own. 🙂

I respect your opinion. 🤝

But sir, I think the Free Services are more of an attempt to get rep than the Giveaways. We're all entitled to our own opinion though.

Quality feedback thread.

Thank you for your valid input, I appreciate it. 🙂
That feedback thread was a good read, better than most. It's nice to see someone giving honest opinions instead of sucking up(like when you criticized Omni.)
time is of the essence

Thanks. 🙂

If I'm not honest, how can anything improve?
If I create the facade that everything is perfect and chipper, than nothing will change.
