How can a website execute tasks

Hello hf,

I know that HTML is used for the structure of the site, CSS for the design and Javascript for the animation, but what language is used to make a website execute some tasks?
-Example: A botnet connects to the slaves and allows the user to control the slaves from the website.

Thanks in advance if you'll help me with this.

Can anyone please help me with this problem?
It's PHP, although if you are in control of the server you can execute operating system commands too.
You see, Doctor, God didn't kill that little girl. Fate didn't butcher her and destiny didn't feed her to those dogs.
If God saw what any of us did that night he didn't seem to mind. From then on I knew... God doesn't make the world this way.
We do.
Uh, for your example, the botnets connect to the server every so often, maybe a txt file?

Php to "activate" the txt file.

Any serverside language. ASP, PHP etc.
Javascript is not only for animations. You can write complete web applications in javascript.

NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO.

NEVER say PHP is the only back-end web language. There are soooo many and you shouldn't encourage anyone only to consider one language (especially since it's so horrible).
