[Question] Who feels that way about the Computing area ?

Hey guys, Aura here.

I know I'm going to ask a question that might get me repfucked/banned/etc. but this is something that have been bugging me for a while now ... I report a lot of posts per day in the Computing area to notice that an hour later, nothing have been done about them. Some of them are even classed as "Disallowed Black Hat activities". I know the threads/posts gets junked really fast in areas like Hacking but why not Computing ? Also, the number of threads posted in the Wrong Section there is just astonishing you wouldn't believe it ...

Who feels like the Computing area is a bit under-Staffed ? Just look at the number of reporter posts I have ... 90% of them are from the Computing area, pretty sure of it. I could find you right now at least 10 threads that needs to be moved from one section to another.

If this thread bothers the Mentors or Staff, feel free to close it, I'm just asking if I was the only one who noticed it.

The problem is that those sections don't have anybody moderating them, including mentors. Mentors cannot handle the reports so they need to wait for staff to be on. They're likely at the bottom of the report list with all the rest of the newer reports on top. That would explain why they take so long to be handled.

It might be reasonably to allow more areas to be moderated by Mentors.

In my opinion, the White Hat Help and Misc. Computer Talk sections are the ones that requires the more moderating, and I'm only talking about these because I browse them often. Apparently, the *nix section is filled with questions related to Pentesting and Forensics too. Can't say anything about the situation of Hardware. Plus, I'm sure there's iOS related (100% related) threads in the OS X section.

Mentors probably should be given the ability to moderate those sections. It happens quite often where somebody is learning and believes a thread belongs in a place where it doesn't. It's not that they're intentionally posting it where it doesn't belong, it's just that they made a mistake.

It would be nice to see this section gain better moderation though since this is a technology related forum. Would look good to have that section in tip-top shape and moderated well. Man power is an issue but those reports do need to get dealt with eventually and it may even help to lighten the load on staff.

Exactly. I look like I'm blaming the current Staff for that and I'm not, trust me. I know other areas needs moderating (constant, 24/7) as well and it looks like other areas like the Computing area suffers of that. If we could have a Mentor that is Computing-aware and could handle that area, it would be good. Right now, I reported 2-3 days ago a thread that don't belong AT ALL in the Windows section, yet it's still there ...

Some hacking related sections are moderated by Mentors as well as Staff, so threads get dealt with faster. The sections you named are only moderated by Staff, so it's generally slower.

I do agree though.

Logically speaking, that would leave all the reports they cannot handle at the bottom. When staff get on I doubt they want to scroll to the bottom to handle the reports that the mentors cannot. They probably just start from the top and handle those reports, deeming one not more important than the last.

Mentors don't handle reports. At all. We don't even see them. Only Staff handle reports.

My mistake, I had been told that mentors did see reports.

I would like to see Mentors deal with sections like the ones in the Computing area to deal with these reports faster, but I don't think that it'll happen anytime soon 😟
Threads have the time to get spammed before they get dealth with too.

I think you'd make a nice sectional moderator for certain areas of the Computing tab, but that's just me.

I browse the Computing related areas of the forum quite a lot and I agree, but this forum is so large that the Staff can't always get to it right away especially if it's getting buried by reports in forums like Beginner Hacking.

I've been a Moderator on other forums and I spend way too much time moving threads 🤣
Also, there's something I do that no one else do and that might not be well seen here : when an issue is solved, I close the thread to prevent further spam and open it only on PM request from the OP. A bit like the MRT does.
Plus, we have Mentors to do that 🙂

This the same damn issue I raised with pen testing. We need a mod for each large section that only has power there.

I actually thought that TH could be the Mod of WHH, since you know, he's already the Mod of the MRT section but I guess he's busy with the groups and the MRT 😖
Any Mentor that have a decent Computing knowledge and could identify threads posted in the wrong section would be fine to be honest.

We have Mentors that are skilled in pretty much every domains covered on HF, I'm sure of that. The right ones would need to be appointed to a section that fits them but its Omni's call. 😝
