Just bought new toshiba laptop and battery is draining WAY to fast... help!

I just purchased this new laptop around a week ago as my other one's motherboard snapped/shorted out when It fell off of my bed. Since the very day I got it.. its been a HUGE pain in my ass. I'm sick of its shananagans. I really think its just windows 8.1 and its tude.. but thats beside the point of this thread. The latest issue I have noticed is that the battery has been dying relatively fast. It only lasts like an hour and a half when it says it has like 4 hours worth of charge.

When I first got it out of the package it was already charged to like 99% so I used it and let it drain down to around %10-20 and then I plugged it in until it was charged again, and then I would unplug it. This is what I was always told to do to preserve the battery.. but atm I don't think its working.

I just adjusted the brightness, but I can still see the battery draining 1-2% every like 3 minutes.. This is stupid.. I just got this laptop and it shouldn't be doing this. (as you can I see I am very frustrated.. I really don't know what else to do now. I took out $600.00 from my savings that I made from selling social mediums LOL.. I was gonna buy a car with that money.. but I chose the laptop because didn't know I was gonna deal with all of these problems.)

Any help/advice is appreciated with this one.. :)
Do not deal with me off site. I never deal offsite unless I have verified via PM.
Yeah, new batts can be fiddly.

Run the laptop dry to 0%. Fully charge it and don't really use it, besides checking the percentage. Hopefully it's equilibrium will correct itself. If not, return the battery. There aren't many solutions.

I think its starting to act right now that I adjusted the brightness settings.. its been stuck at 75% for the last 15-20 minutes.. so I suppose thats a start to a good sign. After the battery drains itself out again I'll charge it all the way up over night and see what it does tomorrow.

I have a 12 cell battery in my laptop that runs for 3 hours after the bar on my laptop is at 0% on Linux and Windows. Software sometimes can be deceiving.
The way you are charging the battery is the right way, although I would personally go even lower such as 4-5% before recharging it.

And how long it lasts, depends on MANY things.
The system could be idle when it said 4 hours left, if thats 4 hours on idle, if you start playing a game the usage goes up and the time would drop drastically.

It would also depend on the actually battery, is it just some cheap one that fits and works or is it an official replacement?

There is also such a thing as power management/settings under the control panel, try playing around a bit.

There are just so many things that could be going on here..
Human stupidity : Buying something they have no clue about, and then ask if they wasted their money.
