Suggestion:
The ability for users to purchase usernames of members that have been permanently banned [EDIT] for a specific time period.

PROS:

1. More money into the community, bettering it as a whole.
2. Recycling usernames allowing for persons to be able to obtain a good username they want, that is no longer being used by the prior person.
3. Could be used as a 3PIC L33T or UB3R perk.
4. Recycling usernames also helps with the amount of uniqueness needed for new users or upgraded users to change their name.

CONS:

1. Can disrupt moderation of problematic users, confuse moderators/admins.
2. Can create a issue with impersonating banned members.

To add to this suggestion, usernames of users who invoke a self ban permanently can not be bought, as well as specific usernames deemed by admins/moderators to be unusable from that point on.

Was just a quick idea that popped in my head as I was looking through the Members list.

While thinking about this, instead of allowing persons to buy a name, auction off names monthly to generate better income and in turn bring the community together for a good ol' auction.

This would cause a lot of problems with people that can be unbanned possibly, or accounts of scammers. The usernames are normally known for scamming or doing something bad on the forum so people shouldn't associate themselves with those usernames.

You can just put a invisible character(which you can easily do) and pretty much have the same name as them lol :P

you see how some people have super OG names even though their join date is recent? :P they have a invsible charcter in their name

that's why when you try to add like "Hate" to a conversation it says "they have their pm's disabled" its because the person you were trying to send it to as a invisible charcter isn't who you want it to be :P

Hmm... Yeah I can see where that kind of nulls my suggestion... However, if it were to catch Omni's interest, he can easily disallow any blank characters in username creation, or only allow upgraded accounts to use the blank characters... Put a clause in the initial ToS that empty or blank characters are disallowed for regular members and blammo!

Account Profiles and Pruning
Can you delete an account so I can get the username?
Hell no. Don't even ask. If it's a zero post member you can wait till the account is pruned but don't ask us to delete an individual account for you. Even if it has one post from 2 years ago and they've never returned we will not delete the account just so you can have a username.

Usernames of closed accounts are not going to be changed just for you. I don't see Omni wanting to waste his time doing something like this either.

Personally I would probably never use this. Its not directed at inactive users, only permanently banned users.
And the suggestion was more for revenue for the community, not for personal gain. Pruning doesn't cover banned users (I believe) unsure about that though.

From reading Omni's posts, and seeing how big the community is, I do doubt it would be implemented.

Yes. 100%. So many OG names has been lost, so we end up with people with shitty usernames because they can't get their wishes. It pisses me off to see people with a name you can't type on a regular keyboard.
I am in for this 100%.
