Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer

Goodbye Spring. Hello Summer. As with every passing season, you're sure to find another section in the AA Weekly giving a brief highlight of that past season's popular shows along with a preview of what is to come next season. This past season was as successful as any other, with the continuation of the popular Fate/Stay Night and High School DxD franchises, along with the premiere of shows many fans overlooked, such as Plastic Memories, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, and Danmachi. This season, the world went crazy over Hestia's peculiar "blue strap", along with her overall demeanor. This ultimately resulted in fans taking their fanatical reactions to social media and beyond, which led to various figurines, cosplays, and even doujins created of this diminutive, yet well-endowed character.

This Summer has many anticipated shows. The sequels to the Fate/kaleid liner, Non Non Biyori, To-Love Ru, and Durarara! franchises are set to begin airing and already have quite a large audience who is eagerly looking forward to their premiere. Several movies, such as Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito 4 - Nikushimi no Kioku Kara, Date A Live Movie: Mayuri Judgement, and Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterun da. are all set to premiere this season as well.

Looking over the Summer title cards, one will find a mix of comedy, romance, action, mecha, magic, and even yaoi. Next season's got a little bit for everyone. So readers, let us know what show you're looking forward to the most!

Take a Bite into Burger King's New Samurai Burger

The fast food giant, Burger King, is known best for their Whopper; however, BK Japan has lately been the subject of many AA Weekly Headline articles, such as the time when they released their "Kuro Burger" for Halloween, and more recently, their Christmas "Berry Burger" line. The corporation has piqued worldwide interest with its outlandish creations, and decides it wants to do so once more. Introducing the latest in the BK Japan line: the "Samurai Burger." The burger comes with BK Japan's "ANGRY" sauce, a concoction created from chili peppers and chili paste, along with matching bright red buns (see picture), and cheese that ultimately lend the burger its name. The company plans to release two "Samurai Burgers" into the market on July 3rd. The first in the series, called the Aka* Samurai Chicken, will retail for ¥540 (~ $4.36 USD). The second sandwich, called the Aka* Beef Burger, will retail for ¥690 (~ $5.57 USD).

Japan's "Emotional" Robot Goes on Sale for the First Time--Sells Out in One Minute

Isn't it so cute that you can just eat it up?

Introducing Pepper, a robot developed by SoftBank Robotics Corp. Featuring dozens of cameras and sensors, Pepper is able to read your emotions, as well as build its own. Though it isn't a work robot, Pepper is designed to keep those single and lonely (for whatever reason that may be), and provide emotional support. For as low as ¥198,000 ($1,600 USD), you can own your own "Pepper." In fact, the idea took off so much in Japan that SoftBank's entire stock was sold within a minute of being available to the public. If you're interested in purchasing your own "Pepper", for home, SoftBank will be posting more information about the robot on its website in July. If you are worried about language barriers, don't worry! Pepper comes with four languages so far: English, French, Japanese and Spanish. SoftBank is currently looking to expand Pepper's functionality for businesses. More information on that will be posted on their website at a later date.

Issue #81: Tomggg

Tatsuya Fujishiro, better known by his stage name "Tomggg" is an electronic musician based out of Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He is currently signed to the record label Maltine Records, who put out all sorts of music somewhat similar to the style of Tatsuya. Tomggg is mostly well known for his signature sounds and chord progressions throughout his songs bring a somewhat innocent, cutesy vibe to his creations only to be matched by the artwork released alongside it. Tomggg began to get large amounts of recognition once his collaboration with the largely renowned Canadian record producer Ryan Hemwsorth was unveiled, titled "Cream Soda". This release not only gained the rising musician notoriety, but led him on to be one of the key artists from Maltine Records. Tomggg has since gone on to release many remixes for amazing artists such as Porter Robinson & Spazzkid and even releasing his own debut album titled "Butter Sugar Cream". Who knows what the future may hold for this rising star, but we can definitely be sure to stay tuned for what's to come next.

With E3 just passing and with us just coming back, I figured it would be terrible if we just left out the gaming news due to us not having a writer for it. So I cobbled together some sources and set about writing a section for gaming news.

Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda : Trifroce Heroes

With Nintendo's history of story driven, single player experiences, I don't think anyone was expecting this announcement from Nintendo. Triforce Heroes is a 3 player coop zelda game on 3DS which, if current story's are to be believed, is entirely set in dungeons. This worrys me slightly as I, like many others, disliked 4 swords and like to play Zelda games solo and in a quiet room, in a comfy chair. A few of the new features of TLoZ:TH do sound intresting though. You can get on each others shoulders in game so as to reach high places. This could be interesting as Nintendo have experimented with multi level dungeons on the DS before in games such as Phantom Hourglass. Character customization is also going to make an appearance but you will still always look like you are Link.

The main thing I notice when I look at the game is just how much it looks like phantom hourglass. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same studio of Nintendo's that made that and Spirit Tracks but It's not. The graphics are very similar and even Toon Link looks more like he did in Phantom Hourglass then in the other Zelda game this studio worked on (A Link Between Worlds). When thinking back to that game, I also remember that it had a few small multilayer game modes for up to 4 people. This all makes me wonder whether this is the same Link/s as in that game or if they just happened to like the look of those boss's and tile-sets?

Final Fantasy VII Finally getting a remake

If you don't know what this game was originally, I'm not sure what to tell you... Final Fantasy VII is one of the most well known RPGs ever. Ever since its creation it has been heralded as the best final fantasy and I don't think many would argue otherwise. People have wanted it to be remade ever since we made devices powerful enough to support HD and probably even before that. Square Enix has made many a brilliant game, but the fact they are revisiting their most well loved game is something to celibate.

It's not all good news though. When teams talked with the developers behind it, they were told that although the remake would stick to the key pieces of the story, It would be "updated for modern audiences". This is a problem as many of you probably know as this normally means that they are removing things they deem to be "politically incorrect". I'm going to hazard a guess that the cross dressing scene will either be removed or changed to be less funny and I also doubt the innuendos will be in to. I know many people that tell me that the cross dressing scene was the best bit of the game (other than the plot twist that I can't talk about due to people not playing the original) so I am rather worried about the state of the game.

Final Fantasy VII will be released first on PS4.

Thanks for reading this.

"As usual, he has a god-like skill in falling..."

Cosplay Corner is back!

Today we have one of our favorite stars that have been featured many times, Misa! This time, we have the cosplays of her as Momo in the bride outfit (wink wink nudge nudge).
I have to say, Misa is still my number one cosplayer because of her ability to fit into any characters shoes with ease. I'm not really sure what allows her to do this, possibly the make up? Facial expressions and poses? High quality cosplay outfits? I can't really put my finger on it, but she is amazing in every aspect. Nothing negative about this Momo cosplay apart from the hair, it's curling the wrong way! It should be curling inside.

The reason why Misa stands out so much more than other cosplayers is because she actually looks like the character she plays, even if the changes are different per character. Many cosplayers look nothing like the character they are trying to mimic, except the article of clothing. This would still be a cosplay, but would not be considered 'good'. Make up and poses are very scary things, they can instantly change a person drastically. Yes, scary.

As far as I am aware, Misa has no company or circle to represent, purely a solo cosplayer, doing what she loves. It's very rare to see a solo cosplayer being so successful and with such high quality articles of clothing along with make up artists (unless these are all hand-done). Still a cloudy grey area, but hopefully more information will be revealed soon about Misa!

While it may not be that great objectively speaking, I really enjoyed Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (or Oreshura for short). I think it did everything right that a harem anime has to do: the story was alright, the characters were all likable (even the main character), and it was really fun to watch.

But as it is for all harem anime, the most important question remains: "Who is best girl?" I think all of the characters have their strong points, but my personal waifu is one of the contenders so the winner is clear. Angel will be joining me once again to share his thoughts. As always, you're welcome to post your own opinion on who best girl is or suggest anime you want us to take a look at!

iMew's choice
Ai Fuyuumi
[Image: bxd0iXe.png]

You may recognize this character, and it's no coincidence: I picked her to be on the banner of this section. Why? She is the ultimate waifu.

She is one of very few anime characters that manages to be a tsundere without pissing me off, and that's a stronger trait than it might seem at first glance. I actually used to dislike tsunderes, but ever since I've watched Oreshura, I've started to think that the ultimate way of displaying affection is being the ultimate tsundere.

Ai is ridiculously cute and incredibly genuine once you manage to break through or understand the 'shell' she puts up. It's as they say: hard exterior, soft heart--and reaching Ai's heart is the achievement that dreams are made of. I believe that there are no other characters in anime that deserveac the nickname 'Love Princess' as much as she does. Her love is so honest and pure that you just can't help but love her in return. She is the ideal tsundere.

Did I mention that her traits make her the perfect girl, even if you disregard her personality? She's a very good cook, diligent, and smart. What more could you possibly wish for in a waifu? Keep your hands away though--she's mine.

Angel's choice
Chiwa Harusaki
[Image: Bem5jEx.png]

Throughout Oreshura, my opinion on best girl was easily swayed, and I honestly feel you could make a strong argument for any of the main girls. Even so, I always had a soft spot for Chiwa, but that could be because I always tend to favor the childhood friend. Yes, Chiwa can be a bit possessive when it comes to Eita, as she demands permission to date Eita from Masuzu, and she even argues that she knows him better than Masuzu does; however, I feel like her behavior stems from the fact the she truly loves Eita. The fact that she cares so much about his happiness reveals a truly adorable side of her that I fell in love with. To me, her only downside is the fact that she, and to a lesser extent Ai, have been sitting back and waiting so long for Eita to notice them, and this comes to bite both of them in the ass with the conclusion of the series. Oh, and she wears that stupid dog collar.

That'll be it for this issue's Waifu of the Week. We're always open for suggestions and feedback!

Review
Let me preface this with saying that I generally enjoy ecchi romcoms; Chobits was one of the first anime I watched (which I loved) and ever since I've always had a tendency to watch anime in those genres. I've seen truly stupid anime like Kore ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama and quite a few really enjoyable anime like Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?, but I rarely 'dislike' anime of this kind. A lot of people praise this as the best ecchi anime, so I should be in for quite a treat, right?

Wrong. If you asked me what anime I'd recommend to a horny teenager who just wants to see anime tits I still wouldn't recommend DxD, even though anime tits are DxD's strongest argument (and pretty much the only aspect you'd watch it for anyway). I am well aware that I shouldn't have high standards watching fanservice anime, and throughout my review I'll try to make it apparent that my expectations are already pretty low when I start watching a show like this; but even then, DxD remains a disappointment.

Also, a short disclaimer: most things written below are solely my opinion; if you disagree and like DxD then please do not feel offended.

Story
I'm reviewing a fanservice anime so I'll keep this section relatively short. The perverted, hormone-driven main character Issei finds himself tricked by a fallen angel in beautiful disguise. After being killed by her, he's resurrected by the high school's beauty Rias and turned into a servant demon of hers. Most of the anime consists of Issei's actions as part of the school's demon club as he gets more and more surrounded by girls who all miraculously want his d*ck, all the while getting power-ups by being a pervert, fighting, and making jokes some 14-year-olds would giggle at for hours. I'm aware that the story in this kind of anime usually takes the backseat, therefore I'll be rather generous with my rating in this aspect.
6/10

Characters
This is the most interesting aspect in harem anime, and also DxD's biggest weakness.
The male lead is utterly useless (which is a common trait in harem anime) but on top of that he is also very annoying. Most of his character can be summed up as "let me see those tits", and, while that may be funny for the first episode or two, it gets incredibly tiring as the show progresses. He's a good-hearted idiot and never really develops (which he generally hardly does) himself out of that role. I personally think the show would've been a lot better if the main lead was swapped for a more conventional approach like Date a Live's or To LOVE-Ru's. Issei makes an anime that would otherwise be mediocre, terrible.
The female cast isn't any better. Rias is a surprisingly decent character, who, while not exactly ingenious, does make the show a bit more pleasant by being a genuine person. I'd be a fool to call her a 'unique' character, however my standards are, as I mentioned previously, not even that high. The remaining cast is shallow cookie-cutter harem (which isn't terrible but not really good either) and only exists for fanservice reasons. Asia is the sweet girl, Koneko is the quiet but adorable petite girl and Akeno is the semen demon with giant boobs. There's also a second male character in the club but he is pretty much irrelevant in the first season.
2/10

Art
The anime is decently drawn with fluid animation. The fanservice (which is arguably the most important aspect for shows like this one) panders to most preferences: the boobs are in various sizes and there are plenty of panty-shots. There's not much to complain about in this aspect but nothing noteworthy either; it overall lives up to what you'd expect from a 2012 ecchi. The character designs could have used some work though, as most of the faces look quite similar to one another.
6/10

Sound
The one aspect in which DxD actually surpasses most of its peers. The OST is great if you take a moment to listen to it and (in most cases) does well in accentuating the situations; it is accompanied by solid voice acting that doesn't leave open a lot of room for improvement.
8/10

Enjoyment
In harem anime this usually comes down to the characters, and I've previously stated what I think of those. Therefore, the following rating shouldn't really be surprising. I got extremely annoyed by the male lead and the female characters didn't do enough to make up for it. I'm also not a big fan of the type of comedy this anime provides, although I can understand why some people might love it. The only part I really liked about DxD was Koneko.
4/10

Overall Rating: 5/10
Should you watch this anime? Unless you can stand a terribly annoying male lead and love comedy geared towards people who started puberty recently, no. If you're just looking for a fun romcom with a lot of tits try Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai or To LOVE-Ru instead. However, if you do end up enjoying DxD the three seasons and the plethora of OVAs this anime has will keep you (and your hands) busy for quite a while.

Title - Kodomo no Jikan
Title in Japanese- こどものじかん
Genre(s)-Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Romance, School, Slice of Life, Seinen
Chapters currently released -93
Author(s) –Watashiya, Kaworu
Artist(s) –Watashiya, Kaworu
Released -May 22, 2005 to Apr 22, 2013
Status -Completed

Synopsis
The story of Kodomo no Jikan is centered around 23-year-old Aoki Daisuke, who has just landed his first teaching job as a grade school teacher at Futatsubashi Elementary School. He is placed in charge of Class 3-1, where one of his students, a mischievously precocious Rin Kokonoe, develops a crush on him and goes so far as to proclaim herself Aoki's girlfriend. She aggressively pursues her efforts to be with her teacher despite the fact that he will lose his job if she gets too close, a situation further complicated by the often complex, intertwining relationships existing between them and their respective friends, families, and peers.

Characters

Mate. Trust me, I'm just as confused as you are...

Daisuke Aoki (青木 大介)
Daisuke is the protagonist of the story. He works as a grade school teacher and is in charge of the third grade class 3-1. He often ends up in situations that make it appear as if he is sexually harassing Rin; though, he believes to be the other way around, with him as the victim. Later on in the series he begins to grow attached to Rin more and more. He is at first unsure about his feelings for Rin, but later on he comes to the conclusion that it is fatherly love and nothing more...

Don't get use to the hair color. It changes more times than I can count...

Rin Kokonoe (九重 りん)
Rin is a young girl in third grade who has an intense crush on her teacher Daisuke. She has a mischievous nature and has proclaimed herself to be Daisuke's girlfriend; she will go to great lengths to make him fall in love with her. This has resulted in her crossing moral and legal boundaries many times, including blackmail and taking advantage of Daisuke's inability to respond to her forcibly advances by threatening to scream that he is trying to molest her, when in fact it is her that is making those advances. Despite Rin's mischievous nature she has shown herself to care deeply for her friends and family, going to any length to defend them. Also much of her bad behaviour is a result of trying to hide the traces of the vulnerable little girl she used to be as a result of a tragedy in her past.

Vandie’s Opinion
To start of, I'm going to get one thing clear. I read this because I lost a bet. Tweety, I hope your happy...
Kodomo no Jikan is an interesting tail of forbidden love between teacher and student. It follows a 3rd grader, named Rin, and her teacher as she tries to convince him to love her. The story is very well written and is very understandable in some aspects. Rather understandably though, considering the topic at hand, I don't think there is ever a point where it is relatable. The story doesn't go of on tangents as with most other forbidden love tales and overall it had a decent plot which managed to stay away from too much indecency (while still staying rather perverted and humerus). Another positive is that the way in which the story is wrapped up is rather nice as it not only avoids having indecent relations supported but also makes a lot of sense. I must give credit to it for having such a well rounded story.
For story, Komodo no Jikan gets a 8/10

The characters of Komodo no Jikan are by far some of the most well written characters I've seen in a while. The writer clearly knew what they were doing when they carefully crafted each one a deep and engaging back story that only served to further push them as individual works of art. From Rin's parental loss to her cousin's incestuous relation with her mother, Every character had at least a chapter (of which each was rather long) dedicated to them. The characters are just another way in which the manga has been incredibly well written and as such...
The Characters get a well deserved 10/10

The art was one of the few things that I felt could do with some improvement. That's not to say however, that the art was not of an incredible standard but I felt when put with such high quality writing, it was lacking in comparison. The art had a rather incredible amount of glorious detail but at times, I felt like the faces were too sharp or that hair looked too un-natural. This caused me to be taken out of the read and made the experience a little less enjoyable. As I said before this is not terrible art by any means of the imagination but i for one feel like it should be improved.
The art gets a 7.5/10

Overall, I must say that Komodo no Jikan is nowhere near as bad as I expected it to be. I think the last few times I tried to read it, I got stuck on the first chapter and probably just felt uncomfortable at the topic shown. It's still not the sort of thing I would usually read but I'm still going to say that it was a bloody good read.
Komodo no Jikan Receives a well deserved 8.5/10

So I know we've been on a bit of hiatus but I hope you guys will understand that we've had some internal issues.
Yes, I know we have an internal news section but to be honest, I just feel like writing out things myself.
I thank you all for reading my little section of the AA weekly and hope you will continue to read as we grow.

Again. Thanks for reading.

Synopsis:
Aoi returned to his hometown of Kazegaura where a gentle breeze blows through the streets, having lost his direction in life. On the hill lined with windmills, he met a wheelchair-ridden girl Kotori and watched the gliders overhead in awe. With his childhood friend Ageha in tow, they resurrect the soaring club in order to fulfill a childhood dream: to fly on a glider.

Story review:

I find it hard to really knock on this VN in any capacity. I went in not expecting the fun ride I was about to take. Even with the partial fixed translation I was stuck with the entire thing was just funny. Most of the characters have funny moments even if some serve little purpose other than being a token cliche. From the Tsundere Wheelchair bound girl Kotori and her pet duck in a top hat that follows her around to the cool and collected "big brother" in An-Chan I felt like everyone was organically in the world and not shoe horned in. As the synopsis states the main plot of the story is about flying. With everyone having different reasons why they want to fly. From the obvious in Kotori because she is wheelchair bound to the psychological needs in others.

But while we have the goofy and the funny sometimes it takes on a very serious tone and handles it well. From Kotori needing help in the simplest things we take for granted like getting into a bathtub and hating herself for it, all the way to the MC having traumatic flashbacks to a darker time. And it's just all handled maturely and not like some disease that must be purged like most mental problems are portrayed in other media. It all just comes together to make a fantastic Romcom that I wish was fully fan translated as moenovel completely butchered it because they couldn't spend the time and money to give this VN the translation it deserves and cutting out mature content to "appeal to a wider audience" which is a load of crap.

Sound:

The sounds fit perfectly. With just some nice melodies that I didn't really get tired of listening to. And the opening song is godlike and has become a part of my daily playlist. Have a listen to it below!

Spoiler (Click to View)

Art

I really liked the art style in this VN. Some of the characters can look a little derpy at times but it isn't ever distracting. Overall it can take some getting used to but is really solid.

Overall Satisfaction:

If your feeling down and want to have some laughs start up this VN. A lot of the serious tone doesn't come out until later and by that point you will really care about the characters. Add onto that the great art and sound design and we have a winner. The only nuance is it took me 4+ hours to even get the VN running because there are 3 different patches for different versions of the game. My recommendation is to pick up a copy of the japanese version of this VN and then use a patch for that version. Because the steam and moenovel versions are fucking devils spawn and refuse to work with anything.

Story: 9/10 (A really nice comedy story that handles serious topics well.)
Sound: 9/10 (All around amazing.)
Art: 7/10 (It grows on you and is solid.)

Resources
Normally I would give you links to buy this VN but honestly moenovel doesn't deserve your money. They completely butchered this VN and then threw it at us under the guise of it being able to "reach a wider audience". So my suggestion is to sail the high seas in the search for this VN.

The games VNDB page can be found here.

Great edition, and I appreciate the thread shout-out in the first post. Much appreciated.

I haven't seen these for a while now. Did you guys just start them back up again? :)

Or perhaps I just missed the other ones. :\

Edit: Just read the bottom of the thread. Glad it's returning!

We had a few issues but hopefully it has been ironed out. Since we've been on a hiatus, I took over to make sure it doesn't happen again. Full steam ahead every week!

Good job guys. I've always wanted to buy the VN "If My Heart Had Wings". May buy it now :D

Took a little while for the new issue to come out because of the problems, but it was worth the wait to make it great.
That robot looks mad. An emotional support robot? Inb4 a bunch of people fall in love with it. -.-
Thanks for the AA Weekly Issue as always!
