To all the people thinking about starting to watch anime, or even people who like anime and haven't seen these, these are my recommendations:

Clannad - Feels train anime, filled with joy and sadness. About a young boy who's name is Tomoya Okasaki and how he gets through school life with a nonsupporting alcoholic father.

Angel Beats! - Only around 12 episodes or so, it's very short, but it's very good. It's about a student who "dies" and is sent to a place that is not yet heaven, but looks like their school. At the beginning he joins up with a young lady named "Yuri" who invites him to join the "not-yet-dead battlefront".

Code Geass - it's about a young man named Lelouch. In the beginning Japan gets taken over by the Holy Empire of Britiannia. Lelouch has growing hatred towards the empire of Britiannia, even though he is of Britannian descent and Lelouch wishes to change the world for the good, with a secret power of Geass that was given to him by a mystical lady named CC.

Death-Note - Death Note is about a young man, Light Yagami, who was a very intelligent school boy. He drifted while staring out of the window one day in class and saw a notebook fall from the sky. When he opens it up and checks it out, it changed his life forever. Psychological thriller.

Psycho-Pass - Psycho-Pass is set in the future where people's mental state is based upon a "Psycho-Pass" that can predict future psychopaths and violence, which is all run by the computerized Cibil System which all the law enforcement relies on. The story is about a young lady named Akane who got a high score on her Cibil exam, granting her the ability to virtually pick any job she wants, however she picked being a law enforcement officer. That choice forever changed he life in more ways than one. Sort of a psychological thriller.

Attack on Titan is really really bad. The only one I could recommend is Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The original Full Metal sucks. Angel Beats! is a good one to start off with, as in if you just got into anime because it's simple.

I would not recommend Angel Beats as it is quite bad in some departments, like the story is pretty incomplete.

The ones i would recommend is
Attack on titan - Most people will already have heard of this one, but I highly recommend it simply because it's not heavy on the "standard" anime cliches that turn a lot of new people off, allowing for an easy start if you will, haha

Fullmetal Alchemist - One of the most popular shows recently, so I'll let the fame speak for itself.

Parasyte - More of a "mature" show that is very good and makes you think about humanity and stuff, if you're a friend at least

eh, anime is subjective as fuck so i think introducing people to something like MAL and letting them pick for themselves via synopsis/genre listings way more effective.

The setting was interesting but everything else felt kinda rushed, in my opinion of course.

They tried to fit too much into 12 episodes. The romance felt forced, the love triangle was shitty and they expected people to care for a character that was stonefaced the entire show and only relevant in the latter half. It didn't work.

Yes, and therefore it was pretty bad, I believe it could have been good if it got 24 episodes.

Full Metal Alchemist : Brother is a great starter anime. For someone more into drama, probably Clannad or if wanted to a more exciting extent, My Little Monster. Those were that anime that got a few of my friends into anime.

Naruto (Original) has like 220+ eps

Bleach has 360+ eps

Fairytail has 170+ eps

This: Also Attack on Titan is good to push watchers into manga. To me half the fun of reading manga/watching anime are the forums where people debate and predict whats going to happen next.

Also Attack on Titan is pretty simple and won't overwhelm a first time anime watcher.
