[Question] Where have the free RATs gone?

I remember a few years ago there were a lot of free RATs like Spy-Eye, Cerberus, CyberGate and whatnot (btw: I also consider widely available cracked versions as free RATs!)

Recently I felt like messing around with some RATs again (nothing special, only testing some stuff on a local network), but it took me some time to find up-to-date free RATs. I eventually ended up downloading an old version of DarkComet, but it kept me wondering as to where those free RATs have gone. Are they just harder to find nowadays or did they really disappear?

Thanks for your input.
Thank you.
I dont think CyberGate is free.
SpyEye isnt allowed to be discussed here.

You can try something like Quasar/xRAT, MLRat, BabylonRAT or SpyNet
njRAT and DarkComet exist, but they're no match to the new "free RATs"
I think they just disappeared.

Woops, sorry. I actually meant SpyNet, not SpyEye. I got confused there for a sec. This thread is about RATs, not bots after all :)

What would those "new" free RATs be then? (again, not bots, my mistake)
Thank you.
There is actually a thread listing all free and paid rats along with their threads and/or website. If I can find it I'll edit this and give you the link

EDIT: The thread ID is 4935588. I can't post a link until 50 posts...

EDIT2: Sent you a PM

Wow, they all look like the work of taking 3 (or so) skids and putting them all into one room. .NET 4? Seriously? What happened to those good old native RATs made in C/C++, VB6 or Delphi for that matter? Does no one use those languages anymore?
Thank you.

Well BabylonRAT is C++
Then, you can still look at SpyNet (its on XilluX's website, search for that)
The feds, It all has to do with the feds. Becareful out in the streets of the IE.

Thank people for thread IDs, and thanks for the PM although I know how to work IDs ;)

I'll skim through the list and see if I come across anything new and, well, not shit.

I just feel it's very weird that nowadays it's much easier to get even the source of software which can't be discussed here than it is to get your hands on an up-to-date, not shit, free or cracked RAT. Very weird indeed.
Thank you.

I already posted the thread link :P

Cracked RATs are pretty shit imo, and risky opening a backdoored one too. I'd rather go with a paid version, not cheap.
Free RATs aren't usually meant to mean quality, but a few free RATs have really been making it quite well.

I personally hate paid RATs, and here's why... prepare for quick rant

First of all, sellers have to ensure that people actually purchase their product (and I don't blame em, every prick on HF would leech their shit if it wasn't well protected), which means they have to use some kind of licensing mechanism.

That usually leaves two options: Connect to a server using a secure connection and validate the license OR ship a personalized (preferably asymmetrically encrypted) license file with the product. Both have their obvious weaknesses, but the first one is generally preferred, mainly because it's not as much work as trying to write a near-perfect encryption solution.

For me, that means that my application always connects to a place I don't want it to connect to. That's my first issue and is part of the reason why people who used a certain RAT with sunglasses had to go on vacation for a while.

Secondly, if your RAT connects to a server to check the license, it can (theoretically) smuggle all kinds of commands between the server and you. I'm not talking about backdoors, but rather botkilling. Again, seen in the RAT with glasses.

However, with free RATs, there is no hidden agenda, because if there were one, the mere number of people using them would be enough to show what those RATs are doing in the background (-> slaves disappearing for everyone? RAT shit or botkilled). However, open source RATs are even better.
Thank you.
I am going to release a free RAT named TAR, probably Q1~Q2 2016 when most of the functions are added and work properly. It works fine now, but there's a huge lack of features. It is coded in VB.net with .net 2.0. Until it is HQ the release is still far away so talking about it now would be useless. If you're searching for a good free RAT you should use Quaser, I used it for a while but I haven't got much clients, because I'm very noob at spreading. IMO it was stable and worked fine.

My love for you just increased ten fold.
My god once in a while through this disaster of shit posts and retard questions, you see a post of GLORY

Your post and request is simple.
Yet respected, after reading the thread in entirety.

The reality is coming from your "Time line" I can say this much, shits changed, greed has taken over the aspect of whether we can dev software to accomplish what we wanted.
Back in (I dare say) "Our" days, it was what control could be held over the system, not the feature rich appliances we have access to now.
I am the FIRST to speak out about the licensing and monetary system involved now, it generates such a weak spot for us, we cant consider any "paid for RAT" truly reliable.

For those new around here
- Flaw in our licensing system
- Black Shades, - Looking back

We need a better solution, and Ive yet to create one myself, but do earnestly believe we in a community will one day.

\\Edit
Realized I went on a ramble there
Answer, I recommend Babylon. 🤝
Everyone want to make money now bro, doing something free now is base on two things:
Either its a test project or its out of an extraordinary good heart :D
