Wow, what IDE does that type of thing? Usually my IDEs are just GUI frontends for writing software, but yours must be on some kind of shit if they're doing that.

I'd assume his hard drive is encrypted and the file in question corrupts the bootloader, making it much more likely that any forensics professional will assume the entire hard drive is fucked; generally full-drive encryption software bootloaders give an idea what type of hashes and algos are used to decrypt the device, but without that it'd be extremely difficult to just take a guess. Especially with new FDE software that includes PIM; with that in place, a brute-force attack becomes nearly impossible.

I have the same set-up. It runs as administrator, changes the bootfile to a simple error including a picture of a dead smiley face with its tongue out (in spoiler below). Kind of a "fuck you" before having to go through the whole process at the police station, except with complete plausible deniability.

Then again, his Bitcoin address has literally 0 BTC in it, so something tells me he didn't go to the trouble to write something sophisticated like that, and that he also has no realistic need to do such a thing.

it's simple batch actually, me and my friend coded it cos we were bored :P
