Tut 1 - Begginer guide to CS:GO

Hello Hackforums.

I have seen a lot of people asking around for tips about CS:GO as they are just considering playing or just started playing this masterpiece. This is my tutorial on how to get started and basic things you need to know about CS:GO.

What is CS:GO ?

CS:GO is the abbreviation form from Counter Strike : Global Offensive. This is the latest game of the Counter-Strike series, launched in 21st of August, 2012. It is the most played FPS ( First person shooter ) game of 2015 and one of the most played games of the year.

How do I get it ?

To play CS:GO competitively, you have to purchase the game via Steam at a price ranging from 7-13 USD ( one time fee ).

I have CS:GO on Steam, what do I do now ?

Begin by installing the game. Settings are very important in CS:GO, so I`m gonna give you some settings to use.

Set launch options.
Go to Steam->Right click on CS:GO->Properties->Set Launch Options and type in this :
Code
-novid -high -threads 4 -nojoy +cl_forcepreload 1 -nod3d9ex

-novid : Disables Valve useless intro videos
-high : Forces the priority of the game on High
-threads 4 : I use 4 because my CPU has 4 threads, but if you have a dual core just put 2
-nojoy : Removes joystick support ( we are not gonna need it clearly )
+cl_forcepreload 1 : Forces the maps to load at the beggining resulting in higher FPS(frames per second)
-nod3d9ex : Disables directx

These are the main settings you have to use for a better experience.

Graphics card options.

For Nvidia graphic cards:

For AMD graphic cards:

In-game settings : Up to your PC specs and your liking. A good example of in-game settings:

Note2 : If you have good FPS and you prefer to have antialiasing on try 2x or 4x MSAA , make sure you have antialiasing in your GPU control panel to "Let application decide". This is personal preference of course, try CSGO with antialiasing on and off and find what works best for you.

Okay, now that we have the settings all set up and you are ready to play, lets go over the game types you can play.

Deathmatch ( respawn ). You get respawned randomly, get different points for killing enemies with different weapons, after 15 minutes the winner is the one with the most points. Very good mode to try different weapons and maps.

Armsrace. Respawned randomly, have to get a kill or two with each weapon advancing to the Golden Knife. This mode is really good to form your aim because the maps are usually medium-sized so you encounter enemies all the time.

Casual. This is the closest you get to Competitive mode. 10v10 maps with the sole purpose of planting and defusing the bomb ( this is what CS:GO is all about, right ). When you fell you know your weapons and maps a bit, I suggest playing a few of these before jumping into competitive games.

Competitive. This is what makes CS:GO played. This game-mode has its own ELO system like most games ( LoL, Dota etc ) that scales you on different ranks, as seen in the picture below :

You have to win 10 of these to get placed in a rank, but no more than 2 wins per day untill you reach the 10 wins.

If you have any questions or stuff you want me to add to this tutorial, just say so below. Please comment to keep the thread alive for other new players too. I hope this will help you at least a bit to get started on this great adventure most of us play.

Sorry man but his is kind of useless. People who are new probably learn how to play themselves and probably will know where to buy the game, etc. Nice info tho.

Not really. It has good launch option knowledge and GPU optimization tips.

It's awesome that you made a thread trying to help people out, would never dispute that. Your heart is clearly in the right place, but personally I think the direction could be a little better. Here's why.

While I'm not sure if anyone will fully utilize the 'how to purchase section', it doesn't hurt that it's there. It's the next bit that I feel falls short. At least in my opinion, I don't feel anyone that's at least MG1 level would benefit from enhancing their GPU settings. Most new players would be more inclined to max everything out than go with these particular in-game settings, as well. Not because they don't have their own secret little advantages (and caveats - see links), but because their computer 'can'. [Link 1] [Link 2]

Most people are at Gold Nova level for a reason, and there's even more reason that the Silver ranking exists. The ranking section also means essentially nothing here, as the player has no reference. What if I told you Rainbow Six Siege had rankings from Bronze 1 to Platinum 16, how would you equate that to skill or what most people are/what they should expect to be at?

Rather than teaching them micro-optimizations such as -nojoy, I think it'd be better to go in-depth about the actual basics of the game and how it's played. CS:GO is a much different game than anything else on the market. It's a huge learning curve from say COD, and rather than focusing on how to buy it, I'd recommend focusing on the differences and what the player should expect from playing. From how they have to stop moving/can't just run around and shoot, how reloading is an awful idea unless they absolutely have to, how they need to actually work with their team and make calls, to one of the most important and misunderstood concepts... How recoil actually works.

That's just my opinion though, but hopefully it helps give some outside insight.
Im still unclear about what cl_forcepreload 1 does. it says it loads the maps in the beginning, but in the beginning of what?
Thanks, man. I never played with those settings when I had my account, and wish this came sooner. Hopefully, it will help other people get the best possible experience.
