The highly anticipated time has finally come; Currency Exchanging is no longer allowed on HF
On January 13th, 2016 Omniscient officially announced the stopping of all currency exchanging on Hack Forums. Also any deal disputes regarding a currency exchange are no longer allowed as well. The new rule can be found in the Help Docs under Rules and Etiquette, #19. Many users of course took this as a surprise, however, it was something some members saw eventually coming. Though currency exchanger's will no longer be able to use HF for their exchanging, at least the number of members getting scammed should go down. If you would like to read Omniscient's full announcement you may do so, here.
A possible HackerCraft return?!
On January 14th, 2016 Omniscient made an announcement that surely nostalgically warmed the hearts of many members, HackerCraft is possibly making a return! Seeing Omniscient still continues to receive requests for a new HC server he is now seriously considering it. This means for many a possible comeback of what once was a great experience. Of course there will be a few conditions regarding the opening of a new server, though surely with with the proper cooperation a fantastic, new and improved HackerCraft server could emerge. Omniscient would like you to send him a PM if you are interested in hosting or starting a HC server. To read the full announcement simply make your way to this thread, here.
HF Changes
On January 14th, 2016 Omniscient announced some HF changes in hopes of moving foreword. First of all as stated above, Currency Exchanging is no longer allowed on HF and Omniscient does not expect it to return. Instead of getting rid of it completely though, Omniscient has a plan to re-implement currency exchanging in a safer and more orderly fashion and also possibly create a group for members that are properly involved in the CE section. Secondly, as everyone knows the VIP section was deleted, however Omniscient is considering adding a new version of the section once we update to MyBB 1.8x. You can find the rest of the announcement thread, here.

Interview - .Saint
Enterpriser: .Saint, welcome to the weekly news interview. Before we get started, would you like to make any shoutouts?
.Saint: No, I'm good thanks.
Enterpriser: Alright then. What made you join Hack Forums?
.Saint: Well, this might sound a little bit dumb but I actually got ratted by a HF member. We talked a bit and he showed me HF, all my life I was already intrigued by anything computer related but never really heard about HF, that's when I decided to join.
Enterpriser: Is the member that ratted you still active on Hack Forums?
.Saint: He last checked HF on 08-21-2015, so I assume he still is.
Enterpriser: I see. I noticed that you're a Graphics Designer. How long have you been interested in graphic designs?
.Saint: I started doing graphics designs about three years ago, I really wanted to learn how to do all the amazing flashy stuff, turned out it was harder then I imagined.
Every thing Photoshop wise I do today and everything I know about Photoshop is self thought.
Enterpriser What kept you motivated to stick with graphics?
.Saint: Actually I don't know. I mean, I have been doing graphics on and off in the past 3 years, sometimes I just hate everything about it and sometimes I just love to spend hours and hours to make something unique, all depends on the mood. When I make something for my customers it's a different story, the customers motivate me, everyone deserves nice graphics.
Enterpriser: Do you see your self stopping in the near future?
.Saint: No, I might do a little bit less in the future, but i won't stop.
Enterpriser: Do you plan on making GFX your profession?
.Saint: No, it will always be a hobby.
Enterpriser: Have you ever taught or mentored someone that is completely new to GFX?
.Saint: I gave some lessons to some people who were new to GFX, but I wouldn't call it mentoring, although they learned enough to make their own signatures etc.
Enterpriser: Do you have any other hobbies other than GFX?
.Saint: I draw tattoos, play guitar and I like to go fishing.
Enterpriser: Have you ever thought about turning any of those hobbies into a profession?
.Saint: Yes, i have been a tattoo artist, and if I want I can get a job in the business, but at the moment I am working somewhere else.
Enterpriser: How long have you been a tattoo artist?
.Saint: For around 2-3 years, but I have been drawing since I was a little kid.
Enterpriser: That's great. Thank you for your time, .Saint! Do you have anything you'd like to say to wrap things up?
.Saint: Thank you for the interview, it has been a pleasure, and good luck with all future interviews!

New Tech Always Means New Malware
Android Smart-TV's. Even though they're new to the market, hackers have gotten to work after this holiday season to gain control of some of the newest, more popular gadgets. It hasn't taken long because these new TV's usually run older, susceptible versions of Android, as well as specialized TV applications that could also contain vulnerabilities. Some apps contain a backdoor that exploits an old flaw (CVE-2014-7911) in Android versions preceding Lollipop (5.0.) Apps vulnerable to this are detected as "ANDROIDOS_ROOTSTV.A."
International Company, Hyatt, Hit With Malware
Mischievous hackers has infiltrated a hotel franchise named Hyatt Hotels, which have hotels in 50 different countries. The company's payment processing system has been infected with malware, which later led to the exposure of people's payment details online - all of which were used previously at Hyatt's spas, restaurants and casinos. Hackers were able to retrieve a person's card number, name, expiration date and verification code, which can all be used to purchase goods and services online. Hyatt continue to send out letters via physical mailing and email to their customers. The franchise have now offered identity and fraud protection to their customers which may have been affected, in order to apologise for the inconvenience.
Creator of MegalodonHTTP Botnet Arrested
Norway police arrested five hackers last month, who were accused of running the MegalodonHTTP RAT. The arrests were part of "OP Falling sTAR," a joint effort with Norway’s Kripos National Criminal Investigation Service and Europol. Aged 16 to 24, the men were from Romania, France and Norway. They were charged with possessing, selling and using malware. It was designed to be modular and to be up to 20 KB in size. The software was sold here, on Hack Forums, at one point in time. This is after Europol worked with Romanian Law Enforcement to arrest eight hackers that stole money from ATM's using malware.
Film and Stage Star Alan Rickman Dies at 69
2016 has been a grim year so far for celebrities with cancer. Mere days after the death of music icon David Bowie, caused by cancer, film star Alan Rickman also passed away after suffering from cancer. Both stars died at the age of 69. Rickman was best known for his iconic roll in the Harry Potter saga, as the cruel and cunning Professor Snape. He is also well recognized for playing the villain Hans Gruber in Die Hard, as well as many other films and stage productions. Despite frequently playing frightening characters such as Snape, or villains such as Gruber, Rickman is remembers as an incredibly caring and thoughtful person, who always thought of others first. Fellow star Emma Tompson who worked with Alan remembered him with this statement. "What I remember most in this moment of painful leave-taking is his humor, intelligence, wisdom and kindness. His capacity to fell you with a look or lift you with a word. The intransigence which made him the great artist he was - his ineffable and cynical wit, the clarity with which he saw most things, including me, and the fact that he never spared me the view. I learned a lot from him. He was, above all things, a rare and unique human being and we shall not see his like again."
Four Iranian-Americans Released From Iran Prison
After extensive negotiations with Iran, a major victory has been achieved for the United States, as four dual citizen prisoners were released into U.S. custody as part of a prisoner trade. The freed prisoners are Washington Post reporter Jason Rezainan, and Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, former Marine Amir Hekmati and Nosratollah Khosravi-Roodsari, about whom little is known at this time. A U.S. official said "Iran has also committed to continue co-operating with the United States to determine the whereabouts of Robert Levinson". The United States is releasing seven Iranian citizens, six of whom are also dual citizens of the U.S. as part of the deal. All of the released prisoners have been convicted of violating sanctions on Iran. All of those released by Iran were taken to Switzerland for transfer, after which they would be taken to a United States military base in Germany for medical treatment.
Fourteen People Killed in Bus Accident in Japan
A bus carrying 41 people rolled off a mountain last Friday, killing 14 and injuring 27. The bus was ferrying tourists to Kita Shiga, a ski resort in Yamanouchi Town in Japan. The cause of the crash is still a mystery, as conditions were dry, with no snow on the road, and no readily apparent reason for the crash. The company that operated the bus has record of their drivers' safety violations. They are now being investigated, and had received a penalty only two days prior to the accident. The bus was carrying primarily young adults, between the ages of 18 and early twenties.
SDK For Valve's Steam Link Now Released
Last year Valve released their new Steam hardware to the public. These consist of the Steam Link and Steam controller. Both of which Valve had around the middle of 2015. Essentially what the Steam Link allows you to do is hook up your TV to the Steam Link and you can play Steam games in your living room. The Link is a small piece of hardware which detects any computer running Steam in the house via your network. Then the Link streams games to your TV at crystal clear 1080p and 60 frames per second. Just recently Valve has opened its doors to developers by releasing their SDK (Software Development Kit). This will allow developers to create software for Steam link which is a custom Linux firmware based kernel 3.8 and glibc 2.19. To add to all this, Valve is currently in the works of implementing 7.1 surround sound to both Steam Client and Steam Link.
Diablo 3 Season 5 Kicks Off
Probably one of the more highlighted times for Diablo 3, seasons are a way for players to compete to the top and see who can accomplish the most before a season ends. It gives players the rush to go a step further and try to complete the impossible. Friday, Jan. 15 is when Diablo 3's fifth season kicked off bringing loads of new content along with it. Usually, developers will release a large update before every season in hopes of giving players a newer feel than they had last season. These may include new items, achievements, abilities, classes, and more. It is without a doubt that the game is getting larger in popularity and is projected to get bigger as time passes.
ESPN Launches ESPN E-Sports
What once started a while back as something people frowned upon and not many were aware of, has turned into something huge and vast with millions of fans attracted to it each year. The world of E-Sports is no joke nowadays, with tournaments exceeding concurrent viewership of 600,000+ at some points it has truly become something astonishing. Just recently, ESPN has began to report the world of E-Sports by launching a subdivision named appropriately, ESPN E-Sports. Here you can find just about as much information as you would regarding any other sport, latest roster changes and post-match discussion, you name it. Currently they have three of the largest E-Sports right now, Dota 2, League of Legends, and Hearthstone. ESPN is also in the works of creating a CS:GO section.

Netflix to Block Proxies and VPNs
Currently, Netflix is offered in 190 countries, but due to licensing agreements, Netflix content varies between countries - for example, the Australian Netflix catalog has only about 10% of the content available to its US subscribers. Many users have looked toward a virtual private network (VPN) or other proxy to bypass this restriction. “In coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are,” wrote Netflix Vice President of Content Delivery Architecture David Fullagar. Fullagar conceded that these methods would not be necessary if Netflix offered the same slate of TV shows and movies globally.
Obama Administration to Invest $4B Plan to Jump-Start Self-Driving Cars
On Jan 15., the White House announced a plan to invest nearly $4 billion over 10 years to accelerate the development and research of automated vehicles. At the Detroit Auto Show, Department of Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx unveiled a plan to develop a legal framework for autonomous driving technology that would encourage consistent rules across all 50 states. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be in charge in drafting the framework. Automakers and safety regulators alike hope self-driving cars could eventually eliminate the 94 percent of fatal crashes that involve some type of human error.
World's First 802.11ad Router Announced by TP-Link
With Wi-Fi ac gaining mainstream momentum, TP-Link is looking to the future with the Talon AD7200, which is the world’s first 802.11ad router (aka WiGig). The router features multi-user MU-MIMO technology, which comes in handy when you are streaming high-definition content to several devices at the same time. The IEEE802.11ad protocol involves addition of a new spectrum in the 57-66GHz range, in addition to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands used by Wi-Fi ac routers today. The end-result is a boost in bandwidth to 7.2Gb/s. The rather unique looking Talon AD7200 was featured on the show floor at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and will be available to buy "in early 2016."
