Removal of Private Data in Orders Database

Okay point taken..

So Omni have to wait 120 days or something before removing all info.. or was it 90 days?

Omni: One idea is to wait for those 120 days before you remove it, so you dont get scammed
Well I'm glad It's removed but to be honest it should've never been stored in the first place. Thousands of members have been linked to their real life identity because the 2013 Witza dump. Atleast it won't happen again though.

Through all the crazy times on HF I have lost much concern for users getting their information stolen as long as they have common sense.

It was increased to 180 days.

In a way but mainly these are spotted by behavior and IP associations. With a Paypal payment of course I was able to also relate additional details but with Bitcoin realistically the data was unreliable and I had to trust that people put the real information. Of course a ban evader won't do that.

Part of catching ban evaders who upgraded with Paypal is that they would reverse payments to me after they scammed the community. Now those payments can't be reversed.

I'm still catching just as many ban evaders upgrading with Bitcoin as I did with Paypal.

I have that data saved but it's not in the HF database so it's separate and is much much much less likely to ever be compromised. For one know one knows where it is. For another it's encrypted.

Quote:Very Intresting, many members would want this gone as it is personal info I guess...........

I get at least 2-3 requests a week to have all their HF account data deleted. It makes sense I remove this order data because I don't need it.

Quote:So theres no name and shaming anymore

Not with any future orders. They can't reverse a payment to me. On an old payment the N&S policy still applies.

Quote:Wait so you deleted all old data, and you will never collect any more again?

Unsure if I'll say that I won't ever again request or require private data. But for right now it's deleted and I am currently not requesting it for new payments. The main private data we hold is account emails and IP addresses.

I have already removed the data in the HF database.

I like to think I'm turning soured milk into cheese and I love cheese. HF just got cheesier. And yes, the pun is intended.
I think this was a good move. Do you still plan to remove reps of banned accounts?

The member who made this post was warned. In some way it violates our rules or policies.
Please familiarize yourself by reading our Help Documents.

Sick. I can't wait for you to announce the features that you wouldn't have added before all of this :)
I don't middleman any deals on- or off-site. Please don't message me requesting my past services and certainly don't fall for anybody who claims to be me.
I personally wasn't too worried about my data since I knew it wasn't in bad hands, but I know others said they were. This should make everyone happy now. Very excited to see the new features you mentioned previously.
Out of curiosity, do you still store any of this data locally?
EDIT- Disregard, just read your earlier response.

Massive companies like Sony get their databases dumped. It's required at some point somewhere to store the data. It's unfortunate that it happened. I do want to be really really clear that your statement bothers me that " it should've never been stored in the first place", because that's just BS. Before Bitcoin you had to take a reversible payment like Paypal or Credit Cards. You needed to store data. So don't talk crap to me. Oh, I know you won't because I just suspended your posting for 6 months.

This is why Bitcoin will thrive. It solves a problem for digital merchants and buyers not by remaining anonymous but by remaining secure and not requiring the storing of private data. Along with a huge amount of other benefits as well. But you can thank Bitcoin for this change.

It's stored safely. I will not disclose where.

This might be a slight off topic question, but what ip2geo database were you using to accurately geolocate ones IP to its correct region? Seeing that a lot of different services provide different locations with each IP. Seeing as I struggle with this a lot.

I really like this change, This will help other members in the future Omni, Thanks.
Interesting to see a change like this, wonder where this will head in progress in the future.
Overall, HF has been changing a lot, it's good to see something new xD
