Laptop shopping for a non-gaming laptop

I have a kind of odd request to make. One of my friends is in need of a laptop but is not a gamer and does not want a "gaming" styled laptop. They want something professional looking.

Budget is $1750ish. Needs include hdmi output, at least three usb ports, and a good 15.6" screen (1080p is fine as long as it's good quality).

I have found the Asus ZenBook Pro, but the only downside is there is no ethernet/RJ45 jack which would be nice to have.

Can you guys find something similar to the zenbook pro that has an ethernet port?
Budget of one thousand, seven hundred and fifty dollars and not looking for a gaming laptop? Well, the computer you specified is nice and it has a graphics card if he chooses to play games, edit photos or videos.
You can get a cheap ethernet adapter so he can still hardwire if need be. I personally would recommend the HP Spectre, it is a fantastic computer HERE

You could also check out a slightly older macbook pro 15", or even a used one. They are amazing especially for someone not looking to game.

Ever since I switched to OSX a few years ago the only laptop I will ever get going forward is a MBP.
best investment ever.

anyone who says "well you can't game" or "I only like windows" is a fucking retard. I use OSX as a host for virtual machines, works flawlessly.

MBP doesn't meet the budget or desired number of ports. Only two usb, no ethernet (so really only one usb since one would be always taken by an adapter) and starts at $2k. Thanks for the suggestion none the less.

Many of the newer computers out on the market do not come with disc drives or ethernet ports. This may be a disappointment but it definitely adds to the portability factor.

EDIT: If you spend this kind of money on anything but a macbook aside from going with a gaming PC, I do not really understand why unless if you really hate mac. However, the mac will certainly out last the PC.

DO NOT GET AN AIR. Pro is like 100-200$ more for 2x the performance. Its simple to see which one to buy.

Also you can game on macs. My friend plays rust on medium settings during school :D

I think OP was looking for something with more ports..
USB hubs work great in my experience though.

You are absolutely correct. More ports are needed. Mouse, keyboard, and backup drive will be connected. Not desirable to have a hub if avoidable.

A MBP is $1000 more for nearly identical specs. A PC is a personal computer, not a computer with specific software installed on it. I fail to understand how spending $1000 less for better performance is stupid.
Right now I am taking a look at MSI's prestige line of laptops. Very high performance with borderline excessive ports if they are anything like my gaming laptop from them, and it will look classy, not gamer-y.

Got one for ya! Below budget but should fit all your needs.
MSI PX60 PRESTIGE (6TH GEN):

Supports conections to multiple external monitors, even 4k monitors
Has a full 102 key keyboard (with numberpad)
15" anti glare vivid color screen
Blazing i7 6700HQ fast processor and 950m graphics card (far better than anything you will EVER see in a macbook)
I know it's not for gaming but there are many things a graphics card can help with, such as rendering.

Best of all, it's surprisingly cheap at only $1200.
This is because MSI usually makes gaming laptops so actually compared to their other computers this isn't a good deal for the specific hardware. However it looks much more businesslike than most gaming laptops and it has a few of its own special features like a USB type-C connector.
I think it has 3 usb ports, and it also has a type c port if I remember correctly, and it certainly has HDMI and Ethernet.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but hey, its a new option!

Consider it as in investment. MacBooks are long lasting computers. They are also not as vulnerable to viruses which is certainly a plus. You also get a lot of free programs such as Apple's office alternative with pages, numbers and keynote.

If he has an iPhone, he could utilize continuity. Apple has an ecosystem built to make everything easy to use.

I highly recommend mac in this price range. However, it is up to your friend at the end of the day.

Like I said, he could go with a spectre OR a surface book

But can you do this with any of the laptops you are suggesting?

Thanks for sharing. I wasn't at all even thinking about Lenovo's thinkpads. I'll have to do some more research on them as I'm not super familiar with all the models offered.

I have an MSI myself and am quite pleased. The PX60 line may actually be one of the best options for the price. Thanks for sharing the idea.

Once when I start venturing in the $1,000+ and not care about gaming I always grab the Lenovo T series laptop.

I stay away from the all other laptops. The T series are made for abuse, and long term use.
