Locked Windows 10 Machine

My friend recently killed himself 😭 and has left behind his computer that I built for him. I wanted to see if he left anything on the computer such as an additional note he left behind and gain access to the shitty picture he had of me and so I can delete hes browsing history. His family tried obvious passwords and thats it nothing else. I was hoping the hackforums community could help me out a bit.

The computer is running off of a pirated windows 8.1 and then was upgraded to windows 10. I dont remember setting any restrictions on the computer such as locking the bios and im sure it is connected to windows live. So if anyone's got any ideas please post.
You can get a live Linux disk and try to use it to decrypt the SAM file and get the pass, or just make a new account entirely and log in with it. I did it a few times for a friend because his parents kept putting parental controls on his account. That was a while ago though.

Maybe Konboot will work too.

You can reset it via a live linux usb

use this OP it's reliable as fuck from what I've heard.
Check out this video.

Not sure if you've heard of the stickykey or Utilman exploit, but once you get elevated privileges you can reset the password to his user account. You just need a linux distro. The one used in that video was Kali. Lmk if you need any help doing this. Sorry about your friend btw. I know how that feels.
Another vote for Kon-Boot from me. $15, but it's definitely the safest and quickest way to do this.

Sorry for your loss.

Not sure if Win 10 still works like this but previous revisions allowed users to simply delete the SAM file and set a new code for the user account in question.
If he was using a cracked version, there's an increased chance he was using a pro version.
If he's smart enough to use a cracked version, there a slightly increased chance he was using bitlocker.

Considering the circumstances this could make live boot options unavailable.

However, please read this article from Microsoft.
