Anyone play guitar?

Hello everyone, I just joined HF about an hour ago and this is my first post.

I just started playing the guitar and I would like to open a discussion for beginners and pros alike. Does anyone have pointers for beginners, such as myself, easy songs to learn, techniques, ect.?

I enjoy blues, 80s & 90s rock, and a little country. It's slow going because I'm trying to do this right. I don't just want to know how to play songs, I want to be a skilled musician. I try to split up my practice time into different sections, as well as combining them. I work on music theory, scales, tabs, chords, chord progression, rhythm, lead, and researching on youtube to try and find new tricks and techniques. I realized after typing all this that it sounds like I know what I'm doing on paper (or web), but... umm... no. Basically, I know enough to understand that I know nothing. I am definitely seeing progress though. Not on a day to day basis, like I anticipated going into this. More like a week to week basis, but progress none the less.
I play the guitar. Heres some of my songs

Just don't give up. Learn songs you like and figure out a style you like. Experiment will all styles. I started of wanting to play metal but then started experimenting with classical/finger picking and ended up sticking to that.
I played for 8 years, stopped last year due to starting college. Plan to take it up again once I finish college.

Tips: Practice alot, watch video lessons online even if you are taking lessons in person and don't give up.
Electrical / Hardware Engineer. Need something made? Have an idea? I'm your guy.
Also learn how to read tabs. It's extremely easy and will make life 100% easier for you when learning songs.
I used to play guitar, i hardly do anymore but i still use my knowledge of it when i produce songs like https://soundcloud.com/user-851533458/ac...rty-sprite for example. Ive gotten more into producing hip hop/trance/trap beats than playing instruments.
chemically balanced, thank you cocaine.

@mael,

This is cool man! It's very peaceful and reminds me of something I would listen to while studying or jogging. What genre would you consider your music? Yeah, I've learned how to read tabs. That came pretty easy as I already know how to read music from playing trumpet.

Don't stop playing just because you're going to college. I've been to college and I know an individual can set aside 2 or 3 hours a week to keep their skills honed in between class, work, and dicking around. If there's one thing I've gathered, it is that this is a never ending, uphill climb in which it is all to easy to digress if you quit practicing or loose interest. KEEP THOSE CALLUSES!!!!!👍

I'm not sure what I'd consider my genre. I have tracks that are purely classical guitar and then some that mix in ambient and then some trap influenced stuff. I never have a set genre in mind when I'm making something I just make what I like the sound of

Hell yeah man, I dig it. Check out Spark Master Tape. I feel like he's your style. Probably my favorite rapper. I cant post links yet, but check out Propeica, Kkaptain Baseball Bat Boi, Syrup Splash, and Dope Dealer
Also learn how to use the pentatonic scale and how to move chords around the guitar.
Will make a lot of songs easier, and greatly improve your guitar abilities.

I agree with this alot, I have nothing to do for tonight and most of tomorrow, so if you have any questions about what to practice, gear to buy, etc. Sent you a PM

Been playing guitar since I was 11 (21 now) So roughly 10+ years.

Feel free to shoot me a PM.

Learn your scales (easiest one to start with is G)

Also look on ultimate guitar then check out their top 100 tabs. Most of them are easy as shit and you will soon realize most of todays stuff is just reworked from old stuff.

Do not simply learn songs on guitar because I will tell you what my old tutor used to tell me. You can play songs on guitar or you can learn to play guitar and only one of those is an actual musician.
