Ghost Hunt
Synopsis (Courtesy of MAL): Spoiler (Click to View)While at school, Taniyama Mai and her friends like to exchange ghost stories. Apparently, there is an abandoned school building on their campus that is the center of many ghost stories. During the story, they are interrupted by a mysterious male figure. The person turns out to be Shibuya Kazuya, a 17-year-old who is president of the Shibuya Psychic Research Company. He was called by the principal to investigate the stories surrounding the abandoned school building. The next day, on the way to school, Mai passes the school building in question. While examining a strange camera she spotted inside, she gets surprised by Kazuya's assistant. Unknowingly interfering with the investigation, Mai breaks the camera and Kazuya's assistant gets injured. Kazuya forcefully hires Mai in order to pay for the camera and replace his injured assistant. From that point on, Mai begins to learn about the paranormal world and the profession of ghost hunting.
This is actually one of the few anime that I have a mixed review about, so this summary/semi-review may be longer in order to be thorough.
While there are many anime that delve into the paranormal, the premise for an anime based on scientific and empirical means to approach it is quite different. The anime centers on our MC who is a freshman student that ends up working for a ghost hunter, as well as a band of fellow paranormal/religious experts. The story itself is separated into several cases that take up 2-4 eps at a time for story arcs with interesting mysteries, many ranging in degrees of emotion and creepiness. The animation is done decently and the sound is memorable in aiding the creepy feel of the anime, the OP most noteworthy.
Yet despite the good from the show, there are some drawbacks. The MC, while helpful when the plot makes it convenient, overall doesn't impact the plot too well (ideally her boss would be a better MC) and is easily the most cringe-worthy character of the anime. There is also a false romance that she attempts to develop with her boss Spoiler (Click to View)via dream sequences. The characters as well, while mostly complimentary, do not indicate much development over the series. However the worst offense this show offers is the change in tone midway through the series. After the 3rd/4th case the show begins to dissolve from a scientific mystery to an action supernatural anime, which is rather a shame as the anime had potential until then.
Ghost Hunt is a decent watch, especially for Halloween, and the enjoyment level did remain throughout the whole series. I recommend this anime to those who enjoy a creepy, paranormal series.

mfw I saw you just completed the serie when I started it yesterday, haha! I wasn't sure at first, I had to give it the first 3 episodes to finish the case and then judge. So far, it's been a good watch and some parts are really freaky/scary. Made me feel uneasy, watching it alone in my appart.

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.

Ye, I watched all of it after 9/10 at night without the lights so was even creepier. Still a good watch, but I have my reservations, especially with the MC.

Despite a few things, I agree it was actually a bit of a creepy anime, I liked the atmosphere it conveyed ;)
