[Punisher]

Hey guys! Some of you may have noticed that certain unicode emoticons don't work with the user title.

Oddly, a few HTML entities become corrupted when copy/pasted and get converted into question marks. I have no idea why.

This tutorial should help you use whatever emoticon you want, without them getting converted or corrupted! Enjoy 👍

For this example, I will be using the "🍏" emoticon, as it is one of the many that becomes corrupted when attempting to use it in a title.

Step 1:
Find your desired emoticon to be used. This website should help:
http://apps.timwhitlock.info/emoji/tables/unicode

Once you've found one, copy it to the clipboard.

Step 2:
After copying your designed emoticon, visit this link:
http://www.amp-what.com/

Paste the emoticon into the search box.

Step 3:
Once &What; has found your emoticon, simply click on it.
A small box should appear with the decimal version.
Copy the decimal code. ( 🍏 )

Step 4:
Travel to the UserCP on HF and click "Edit Profile"
Under user title, paste the decimal code anywhere in your user title.
Save the changes using the button at the bottom.

Step 5:
Congratulations! You've just made it work!



(Optional Pro-Tip)
if you have a long user title and the decimal cuts it off;
Right click -> Inspect Element on the input bar
Change the "max length" value to "1337"
Enter your user title using the decimal codes, then update it.




I hope this helps those of you wanting to use special emoticons but couldn't due to the issue with corruption upon submission.

You can use these decimal codes anywhere as alternatives to copy/pasting the emoticons (in posts, signatures, links, etc).

Sounds like you're missing a font pack on your operating system.

Are you using Windows 7? If so, you probably need to update the service pack so the fonts are updated to the latest version.

Alternatively, install the Symbola font which will include these for you.

They're displayed differently depending on the device and unicode set you're using.

Apple has their own icons, so does Android.
