Was looking to watch an MMORPG type anime with a dope storyline, cool game mechanics and characters I can actually learn about and bond with as the anime progresses.
I saw Log Horizon and it peeked my interest more than SAO cuz of the romance, what are y'alls experience with LH and would you suggest any anime similiar to these?
(Essentially looking for Naruto, One Piece, Fairy Tail style etc.)

Its great, its one of my favorites. I would say its similar to Sword Art. It wont be a waste of your time.
If i remember correctly theres a S2 that recently came out, i heard rumors of S3, my memory is very very bad.
Its not the same style as naruto, farytail, and one piece.
Oppotunities come and go, its up to you to take it or not.
Nobody is perfect, everyone fucks up but acknowledgement is the key to success.

Log Horizon is pretty great. I like how all the characters don't really care about getting out of the game, because they're all fucking nerds who don't really care about reality. It focuses on a lot of world building stuff rather than battles which is something that really interests me. As someone who plays support type characters on games I really like having the main character take that role.
It's a good alternative to SAO, however I find it a bit too slow paced. 4 Episodes preparing for one boss fight. There wasn't really a storyline as well. It's good but it's not as good as SAO for example.

There a literally countless similarities.
OT: I wish there was more romance, but pretty solid series regardless.

Like what? Elder Tails wasn't even a virtual reality game, people respawn when they die, it doesn't just revolve around one character being overpowered. Log Horizon focuses on the political and some what psychological side of the players while SOA focused on the action "I will save the world" type of stuff.

Both stuck in gaming world
Both try to figure out way to escape said gaming world
They both have negative effects when you "die" in game
the obvious aspects such as characters banding together to form guilds
MC IS A FUCKING LONER
surprise they both finally join/make a fucking guild
MC both have things unique to them such as skills or skill sets
Things that werent in the normal game start changing
they start adjusting to life there in the same way across both shows
The main aspect for the plot is to figure out a way to "escape"
Too early in the morning for me to type more but you get the gist more or less
It's just a given that the two anime literally based on the exact same premise would be extremely similar. Not to say they don't have differences like you already stated.
