It isn't a huge problem, but things like this can be mis-leading and people will end up getting confused; personally have tried it myself and it just shows up as blank on the thread title.

£ does not show up on the thread title at all - it may be a glitch or such thing which cannot be fixed.

Does the dollar sign join the factor of a special character as well or is just the pound sign because the dollar sign works perfectly fine?
