I recently got some good internet and now I have some spare time. I want to get back into watching anime.
I have been thinking about Angel Beats a bit and I was wondering if anyone knew of any anime that had a similar story?
I'd greatly appreciate any help on my journey!
Also, here's my MAL https://myanimelist.net/animelist/PsychoticLord

You didn't watch steins;gate.
I envy you, and you should do it now. 😅

I believe it's on my list. I got a bit on my list and I plan on watching them all soon.
Would definitely like to add some anime based around a tragic story line.
Like maybe where we would get attached to a lot of the characters then they die.
Or one where the main character's significant other dies.
Aaaaaaaand Tokyo Ghoul takes home the prize for sad/tragic anime..... damn that kid got some issues
But other than that, I think that Ghost in the Shell SAC has a great amount of tragedy in it, mixed in with some light bits too - I mean they are in like a cyberpunk dystopia (a lot like blade runner) which is a pretty dark and miserable setting. The state of peoples life is cool sometimes and sad the rest, and the fate of people can get pretty depressing - I would give it a go :)
But if you like Slice of Life things then I would suggest going with Orange - you will be able to tell by the first episode that that shit is going to pull on your heart strings like a bitch... I mean look at this MAL writeup of the show:
"Naho Takamiya's first day of her sophomore year of high school is off to an uneasy start. After waking up late, she receives a strange letter addressed to her. However, the letter is from herself—10 years in the future! At first, Naho is skeptical of the note; yet, after witnessing several events described to take place, she realizes the letter really is from her 26-year-old self.
The note details that Naho's future life is filled with regrets, and she hopes that her younger self can correct the mistakes that were made in the past. The letter also warns her to keep a close eye on the new transfer student, Kakeru Naruse. Naho must be especially careful in making decisions involving him, as Kakeru is not around in the future. With the letter as her guide, Naho now has the power to protect Kakeru before she comes to regret it once more."

Already watched Tokyo Ghoul. Really loved it!
I will definitely give Ghost in the Shell and Orange a look.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Try Canaan. Its action packed and a bit twisted in many ways. I watched angel beats and loved it. Have you seen Charlotte?..You will love that too if you liked Angel Beats.
Others:
Clannad ( I teared up several times watching this. ) AnimeHeaven
ef - A Tale of Melodies ( Dark stuff in this i hate remembering ) AnimeHeaven
Brynhildr In The Darkness ( hits u in the feels at the end ) AnimeHeaven
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia ( Very nice love story ) AnimeHeaven
Elfen Lied ( i cry ) AnimeHeaven
Sankarea: Undying Love ( a bit eh ) AnimeHeaven
Those are pretty much love stories with some of them being exciting & depressing. But I have other types on my list if you are interested such as Akame ga Kill, Absolute Duo or something.
Also I don't know what you watch but I tend to stick to dubbed. So soz if you prefer subbed.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Gonna go check out some of these rn
Anytime , I have updated my post as it contained errors and I popped in the links for ya. If you watch any let me know what you think of them, would be nice to have a friend to discuss anime with. Post here or send Pm with contact info..cheers.
Clannad is still the go-to pick for "sad anime". If you're looking for something to really swallows you in some depressing emotions, Clannad Afterstory (the second season) is where things really start to turn.
I also see you have not seen Ano Hana. Another tear jerker of an anime.
I see you also have Steins;Gate on your "plan to watch" list, that one gets pretty feelsy too.

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER
Elfen lied was pretty sad, there were a few others i knew but cant remember on the top of my head.
Whatever anyone says on this cancer website don't watch Clannad.
If you don't mind watching airing anime I suggest Kuzu no Honkai. Otherwise for some tragedy with some romance I'd say Your lie in april or Plastic Memories

I already watched Elfen lied I don't recall it being sad, more so just everyone being brutally murdered.
Maybe i'll watch it again.

I don't like watching airing anime. I have a bad memory when it comes to some things so by the time another episode comes out I gotta re-watch the whole damn thing.
I usually watch entire seasons in one sitting.
