Experiences as a new member on HackForums

Hey y'all
First of all, I'm just trying to improve the forum not hating. I'm aware that I can leave anytime if I don't like the forum, but I had to get this out.

I thought it would be interesting to describe the way I experienced my first few days on the Forums, so here we go.

Positive
1. There is so much to learn here. Even though some posts are pure cancer, you'll learn a lot because of the informative posts here. I really enjoyed this, a lot of new doors open for you.
2. The marketplace is a really cool thing, there is so much variety on what you can purchase. Most listed things are unfindable on normal marketplaces or other forums.

Negative
These things really bothered me and are the main reason I made this thread. Ofcourse there are more positives than negatives and I didn't list ALL the positives there are, but these few things make HF a really bad place for newcomers, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I can understand this forum WANTS new people, not bully them away. Newcomers are good for the financial health, fresh knowledge and brothership.
1. "You must have a positive reputation score to post in our Marketplace. Please read our Help Docs."
Reputation for the marketplace is a very weird idea. I learned that reputation is a subject that is very sensetive for most, so I'll probably receive some because of talking about it, but that's fine. I don't understand why you need positive reputation in order to post in the marketplace. Especially sub-forums like "Marketplace Discussion, Deal disputes, appraisal and finally the worst of them all Free Services and Giveaways. This means that if I got scammed I can't report someone, if I want to give things for free away I can't make a thread, if I want to appraise something for someone I can't, if I want to discuss any marketplace rules or anything marketplace related I can't. Why not use xx amount of posts/registered time/upgrades/payments/let newbs post in certain sections of the marketplace or not able to create threads, WHATEVER.

2. "You made this because you have negative reputation, just contribute and get positive". That's the second problem that I occured. I've helped like 15-20 people so far, no one gave any fucks. And ofcourse because I'm new, my knowledge is limited. So most of the times there isn't even much I CAN do. Out of these people I helped, only 1 person thanked me. Then I visited the vice section and made fun of someone who said "Doesn't make cents" instead of "Doesn't make sense", this gained me a -3. So helping 15 people eventually gave me a -3. Basically you've got to lick the ass of everyone who is upgraded, is that really what you want? Why can't new members just be themselves without getting limitations. Negative reputation shouldn't influence where you can post, this gives UB3RS too much power.

3. Discrimination. People look to new members as scammers, I can't even deal properly. The moment I had +1 rep for minutes, I tried to get informed about a forum that was for sale. I got the following reply:
"Would rather not sell the site to a new member with little rep."

and

"'I've been scammed countless times by newer members. I'd rather deal with a member that knows the forums and is trusted across it."

So... If 5 black guys stole out of your store today, you'll hang a sign with "NO BLACK PEOPLE" inside your store. I don't understand, he appearently is dumb enough to get scammed by not using a trusted escrow. It works on every other forum, you just use a middleman. Why can't a new member like me use a middleman and end up with a safe and smooth deal?

That was it, it's more of a rant now.. Sorry for that, just want to make this forum better than it is already.

tl;dr Be more nice to newcomers!

Have a good day 👍
"Out of these people I helped, only 1 person thanked me." yeeh thats me :)
New members are a bigger risk and older members want you to post HQ stuff. Furthermore some of them absuse the "rep" system in my view. They tend to give you -3 when you cannot give reputation back.

Hahaha lol yet you're the only one who could give a fuck about this thread as well as thanking me.

Thanks for that🤝
Read your posts regarding the -3 and to be honest you kinda asked for it. Newcomers on any forum will always get a bad stigma, it's the internet, it is simply too easy to be anonymous and scam.

Sorry but you have to develop a reputation in order to be trusted, as annoying as it is, it makes perfect sense.

Oh boy. This thread is a big no-no.

Rule #1 of HF: Don't complain about reputation.

Why do older members expect us to post HQ when they shitpost all day. Literally most of them just go for the post count. Also how are new members a risk? If they break the rules they can get a warning, if they do it again you can ban them. What's the point of excluding them from many things here?

Where did I complain about reputation? I complain about the reputation system failing considering you can't post deal disputes, freebies.

What really is deserving? Let's say I helped 15 people and had a small argument about nothing with I guy. Do i deserve the reputation of minus 2? I'm not complaining, just questioning if that's what I deserve.

Anyways, I understand you have to develop a reputation, but how do you develop a reputation if helping people is not awarded, you can't give away things for free and you can't deal with people via a middleman in order to prove you're legit.

"I made fun of someone for using incorrect grammar and got a -3. I even helped people and didn't get rep"

More or less your words.

Yes but I'm not complaining about the fact that happened, it's pretty normal. I'm complaining about the fact that you can't
- Post deal disputes
- Give away freebies (need positive rep to make a thread)
- Deal with the use of a middleman in order to prove you're legit.

Questioning is different than complaining. I'm questioning the fact that this is not working properly. Since the only thing you can do is help people, if helping doesn't get rewarded and outrepped by short toe'ed UB3RS. Then is the reputation system and the way newcomers get threated here right?

You wouldn't be questioning it if you didn't have a problem with it ala my point.

How do you think I have 245 rep? Just by doing nothing?

I used to be extremely active helping people every moment I could, was extremely HQ and told jokes and people thought they were funny.

Don't be a dick and you'll eventually get rep.

Sorry man but this is HackForums not GoodSamaritan forums. Unfortunately good deeds are not always exchanged for rep here, you have to play the game. There are a ton of ways to get positive reputation, just stop bitching. And yes, you deserve -2 because you even acknowledged it in the first place. You're probably going to get a hell of a lot more than -2 if you don't do something about this thread mate.

Why don't you want to accept that MAYBE the way newcomers are not threated right? If you'd look at the statistics you can see that the growth of HackForums isn't that strong as it was. I guess not that many new members get the urge to stay.

I'm giving feedback as a new member, therefore I think this feeling is representative for other new members. It's like a student who says the teacher could maybe explain more about [xxxxx] and the teacher replies Shut the fuck up I know what I'm doing. Meanwhile the goal is to make the student graduate. Here the goal is to get new members and be a succesful bigger forum. This is done by listening to feedback and critisize the things that are now implemented.

Who cares? Literally I don't give any fucks. I just want to give my feedback and make this a better place. If that results in some salty kids who give me -3's for expressing my experiences, it is how it is.

Hate being that guy but if you didn't care you wouldn't have included it in the OP. 🤫

Why? It's important because of the restrictions you get on the marketplace, which is for me ready for a change. I wanted to explain why this needs to be changed therefore had to implement my story and experiences.

When did I ever say that I didn't agree with you? Most Ub3rs do just neg normals because they can.

You weren't explaining anything at all. You were complaining about how nothing went your way because you were new.

"I couldn't post in the marketplace without positive reputation"
To prevent leeches and scammers

"People look to new members as scammers"
If someone joined fucking 5 minutes ago would you trust them with your money?

Your argument holds no ground and is plain old bitching
