Hey! I have tried to boot my kali Linux on a usb. I use Rufus to burn it to the USB device and when I boot into my BIOS i get a problem.
Im running a MSI pc with click bios 5 and when I go to boot menu I can't find the USB device. I have safe and fast boot disabled And legacy boot enabled. Still can't make it show. I tried USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports no change.
What's the problem? Does anyone know?
Most likely the USB drive is not formatted properly for a bootable live USB. It should be formated into an EXFAT or FAT32 format. These are the formats I've had the most success with.
Use UnetBootin or I prefer using Universal USB Installer (UUI) https://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-...-as-1-2-3/

I formatted it with FAT32 once with Rufus but it still didn't show up let me try this Universal USB installer and see if it works
I just booted and it still didn't show me anythin.
the Icon of the USB device in the Explorer has changed to a red debian Icon and the name is now: Run Debian /GNU/Linux
Win32diskimager can get the job done too. However there's a guide in Kali Docs: http://docs.kali.org/downloading/kali-li...sb-install
It also shows how to implement persistence and encrypted persistence on the USB drive, i suggest to give a look at it.
win32diskimager is the way to go sir. Download it and burn the .iso file to that usb.
I tried win32diskiamger and it didn't work x.x

Then the problem must be somewhere else... check in the bios, maybe you have to enable manually the USB boot first 😶

Maybe do you have fastboot enabled? If so try disabling it.

Sorry, i didn't read the post completely. Was going to suggest legacy mode. My bad. I will add that even though I can boot from it I'm still having problems with my MSI's functionality when I boot into linux.
At least i've saved this thread by posting, I guess.
I found that when I click F12 in bios it shows me a USB the USB that I have inserted But when I click enter it navigates me to snapshot to save it

Maybe you can try re install the iso on you flashdisk and when a pop up (in rufus) that contain sys... (i forgot just download them and re burn the iso).
FYI usb is not same as flashdisk usb is port. USB = Universal Serial Bus

I got it fixed. I burned it via Ubuntu and when I inserted it in Windows usb it came up :)
