Glitch - Registering 8+ Years Ago (3,018 days old)

So I made a thread a little over a year ago joking about being at HF too long, since I never did a real feedback or walkthrough of my years at HF and never planned to. However, the last couple years I've been around a lot more again, have owned a group, and made quite a few friends here that make it enjoyable to be around again. So, with that being said, I guess I'll begin my story.

Over 1/3 of my life ago, when I was 15, I decided I was going to join this site. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how I found out about it, but it likely had to do with game hacking. Looking at some old accounts from other sites I have, it looks like I joined CE in mid-2008, so it's likely that I was referred to this site from there. Back in the day, your boy was meddling with Flash Trainers, which was usually done in VB (got I hated older versions of VB), which is when I started learning C# and Java and started making RSPS servers. I actually started earlier in 2004-5 with software, but being 10 years old I didn't really understand what I was doing.

For that, HF has always felt like a starting ground for me. When I joined, this was when I actually started developing seriously. I mean, I still made some stupid things like my OwNage batch viruss!!! and Random Spam "Program", but I started realizing the potential of software when I made my iPod Music Helper and L33t CapS SCRipt [lOl]. I remember being part of crews back then (somehow I was a part of Wraith, don't ask me how), and it was a lot of fun / thrilling to be a part of the community. It felt alive back then, and albeit that probably had a lot to with the lack of social media being around, so forums really boomed a lot more when they were the central form of communication.

I remember getting serious with development and taking a break from HF around then. I would still come around to check if there was anything interesting for a few minutes, but when I turned 16, I got a job as a cart pusher at Walmart and was playing sports at school, so there wasn't much time. The biggest push to my career in software, however, was being 16 and getting contracted to develop a website, which was probably my biggest success and failure of my youth. I got paid on average a thousand a month for about a year to develop a website called minecraftservers.net. This all started because of RSPS and a friend of mine at the time who had the domain but not a great website, and I of course saw it as a fun challenge. It turned into something much bigger, but I learned my biggest lesson of all -- don't put all your time and effort into something as major as that without getting a legal contract or ownership. Or at the very least, charge a lot more. Of course, being in school and getting walmart-pay, I thought 1k/month was great at the time, but that's a disadvantage of growing up lower-class I guess is selling yourself short because you don't know what real money is. Anyway, point is I was away from HF for a little while as I worked on all of that, went to school, etc etc. But, I ended up coming back to HF again, I think after my first "long-term" breakup, finding myself back in the comfort of an online-forum to put myself into and escape the world. HF has always been great for the fact that no one knows or cares really about your real life. Not in a bad way, it's just that they care about what they see you do here, and your name here doesn't have to be attached to the rest of the world. It's a great second-home, and I've always appreciated that.

So in 2012, with the world ending and all, I bitched about my breakup, got into a fight irl released a PHP Table Generator and bought rich bitch instead of paying my phone bill. As if this wasn't already enough to prove myself, I decided to build my street cred as a rap god and roast everyone that asked for it. It was an interesting point in time. I was again building my steam back into the community -- and then I went ghost, again. This time, with soccer 2-a-days, work, and other school-related things, I was really exhausted and focused once again on building my development experience on my own. Sometimes I wish I would have been more active on HF, since interaction with the community and developing software probably would have helped with my progress, but we're here now so I try not to ponder too much on it. I came around here and there, but never stayed long and hardly spoke. I really feel like this was the last time HF "peaked" activity-wise, or at least felt like it. Again, this was probably related to social media becoming more of a thing. When you see non-stop updates on FB, a site like HF doesn't really feel as alive anymore. For all I know, it's gotten more active since then, but with technology moving forward everywhere else to connect us instantly, forums are standing still.

Back to the adventure and fast-forward to 2015 -- and I finally turned blue, got hit by a school bus and had another car accident shortly-after, started reading memory, re-gained my street cred and roasted some more kids, upgraded my internet, took my friend to the hospital after he overdosed on weed, and won 35 BTC gambling (which even later ended up being 120+ BTC) -- I still have regrets on cashing it, don't worry. Anyway, at this point, is when I would say I seriously made my return to HF again. There were a lot of stories in between there that I wish I would have shared on HF because they were amazing, but it is what it is. I'm glad to have interacted with the community. I still credit HF for the BTC wins (since HF is mainly the reason I got interested in online gambling in the first place). And it was around this time that I reached the pinnacle of HF--

I was finally the owner of a group! Well, after getting drunk and being scammed by a staff member, and almost scammed by Icy (always MM with Omni!), I was the proud owner of Riptide and heavy into the music scene again. During this round of HF activity, I really was focusing on making music and interacting with the other musicians / artists of the forum. I met a lot of great people, and I'm glad I had the group while I did. After a year of a lot of fun with music, I decided to let go and sell the group for designer clothes. But, I still stayed around on HF and had a good time. I definitely recommend groups though they are a blast to be in / own. As long as you have members that actually want to work together, it's a great place to communicate.

That about ends my trip on HF up to this point. I made a lot more threads this year than usual, but other than almost dying in the operating room, nothing real exciting happened this year. The last few weeks has been great (being part of discord), and I have a lot of projects I'm looking forward to, but all in all, HF has given me a pretty good experience and I plan on being here for a little while longer.

Overall, knowing that I registered on this site almost a decade ago and still post on it is insane to me. Thanks Omni for keeping it up and not selling to feds!

Shoutouts are over-rated, but I'll do it anyway:

and of course, finally:

Omniscient - Always thought you hated me but eventually realized you were running a huge site with hundreds of daily messages and have zero time for the random conversation. I will say your YT videos are hilarious though. Anyway, thanks for keeping the site up. I made a lot of good memories here and learned a lot.

And that concludes my journey of when I registered at HF until now. I know, I left out a LOT, but I probably already went into it a little too much. Maybe someone will get a good read out of this.

I's good to know HQ members like you exist here, I can't imagine myself being here for 8+ years

8 years and you rate it 8/10? Coincidence? I think not.

This is much better than your feedback from last year.

Glitch, you are a great member. I haven't seen you around as much since Riptide disbanded, but I'm glad to know you're still here.
Your group was a lot of fun. Thanks for giving this community a group that encouraged people to pursue their artistic passions.
Hope you got some sick clothes with that sales money.
Thanks for the shoutout, and I'll see you around the forum.
Damn all those dank members on that list.

Great feed back glitch I still miss riptide but it was time to move on and I understand that xd.

Good luck in future endeavors.

Some people mistake my blunt responses as a sign that I personally dislike them. In fact I'm just busy.

Read most of your feedback. Glad you're enjoying HF and hope you're here in 10 more years too.

Since working with support / IT operations / server administration / application "bug-fix"-er for work, I can understand that. I'm completely straightforward to all of my co-workers and have to be or I'd get nothing done. But in real life, we have happy hour and game nights to remind each other we don't hate each other haha

& yea that'll be a crazy one. Almost at a decade, another one feels like a lifetime from now! I expect HF to be integrated with google glasses by then.

I was going to post this there at first, but realized no one would be able to interact. I think testimonial is a different type of thread, too. I might make one eventually but I'll have a different vibe.

You should really write a testimonial once you hit 10 years and get that award!
